155k on my 316i. Still on the original clutch. My first car was a Fiat Uno that managed 140k but had to scrap it because of the rust.

I would say the e36 appeals more to the chav market, especially around where I live.

For me it's when driving up and down the motorway and you pass new cars broken down on the side off the road. The reliability just seems great and after every long journey it just gives me more and more confidence in it as it's never broken down.

I don't know what garage you use but it shouldn't be £200. I paid £75 for mine to be changed on my M40 at one of those shitty Autofit centres.

I wouldn't worry about it. My 316i has always done that too. The fuel gauge always seems to go down a lot quicker between between the half mark and the quarter mark. I haven't a clue why but I know the car is fine as it alway does around 330 miles (give or take) to a full tank and I've owned it four...

Bicyle racks

This got asked last year by someone else however no one answered but I'll ask it again. Does anybody know of a bike rack that will fit on the back of an e30 rather than the bike racks which go on the roof? Halfords seem to be clueless. Thanks

This happened to mine. Couldn't work it out and was nearly about to get shot of the car. Took it to a garage who presurised the system and steam poured out of a split hose at the back of the engine that I presume goes into the heater matrix. Cost me next to nothing

It may be only a 316 and an old car but I bet it'll be pretty pricey to insure for a 17 year old. Insurance group isn't that low compared to other decent cars on the market

Heater Matrix

My heater matrix is leaking. I can't really afford to take it to a garage just before christmas and may have a go at replacing it myself. I've sourced a cheap working 2nd hand one from Emrays in Norfolk. How difficult/fiddly is it to do and any hints or tips?

Thanks

Water usage

My 316i is using lots of water. Put in about 1.5 litres two days ago and today needed topping up again with around 1.5 litres (ish) of water. No signs of water in the oil and doesn't seem to be leaking water. It had a new water pump around the 100k mile mark and 25k miles ago it had a new radiator. ...

I sure the 6 button obc def came on lux models as did rear headrests, fogs and lip spoiler on the boot. Also with 14" BBS, electric windows, sunroof and the seats have a distinct pattern. Came with the same 3 spoke leather steering wheel like the se model.

Personally I'm not overly bothered about 0-60 times but I'm sure in the BMW handbook it quotes 0-60 at around the 12 second mark not the 10.1 as in the magazine acticle above. I suppose it goes to show that every ones opinon is different!!

Re:

As a 316i owner I agree with mRLEE30. Spend your cash on making it look smart but subtle especially if the body work is in mint condition. Just keep it well serviced and it'll be fine. Mines now touching 150k and still pulls strong. They are pretty slow but who cares, at the end of the day it's stil...

Yet again another OBC question

Fitted a OBC today and it all works fine apart from the outside temp reading. I used to have the 6 button computer in my car so I left in the original temp sensor and wires and just connected it to the new wiring loom. Now the computer says that the outside temp is 75.5 C! I know its connected as wh...

Cheers for the offer. So what does the control module actually do then? On the article on 'retro fitting an on board computer' essential item list it says you need the relay control module. It'll be handy if I didn't need it as as nickso pointed out, its a nightmare trying to find the bits.
