Re: cleaning pistons
you can turn the crankshaft to get the other pistons to the top, I would use some wire wool and some wd to clean them.

Keep them in the shed for a few years, then you can cash inDreamracer1 wrote:Funny this, I have two pairs of very good but not perfect door shell's and no one want's them, even at £15.00 each.
They're too good to weigh in so they're hanging in the shed.
Perhaps it's where we are. near to nothing!

Re: Fluid changing question
Spot on mate! Just the info I needed. I might tackle thes bits at the weekend. Do the gearboxes need draining or would topping up be fine? Obviously new is always good, but if its not a nessicity (Sp?) then I can just top it up. Want to do it properly though so wont just top up if it needs replacin...

you would need a tig welder or a mig thats been set up to weld alloy, tig is by far a the better option.

ahh thats not so bad then, id been hearing horror stories about issues with them blowing up 8O Any engine that gets fitted with a turbocharger could blow up, regardless whether it has vanos or not. as already stated its the mapping that is key. some advice for you is not to run before you can walk....

m50 arp main studs
Has anyone any experience using arp fasteners on an m50 for the main bearing caps?
My problem is that the studs dont seem long enough to fully screw them into the block and leave sufficient thread at the other end for the washer and nut i.e. the nut is proud of the stud.

I cant see how the e36 rack and pinion can mesh in an e30 casing also. due to the difference in angle, the casing would not allow the bits to even fit together.

I think the driver has been given a bit of harsh judgement on this thread, anyone can crash very easily, but then people start flaming him, saying he is this and that before they know the facts. The poor guy has crashed his car, I bet he is gutted...but at the end of the day at least no one got hurt...

yes you can do it in place, remove the prop & rubber doughnut, drain the gear oil, slacken the gearbox output flange nut & remove flange. pop out the seal and fit the new one. rebuild and fill to the level plug with new oil.

Why cant you use the sprocket that came with the crank out of interest? I dont have the m57 sprocket for the crank, but looking on realoem its larger so no good unfortunately. on the m57 the crank drives the pump which is connected to the cams. As Barry says I should have just got the right one in ...
