Re:

Great input guys, but i'm even more confused now. Went to look at a TVR 350 yesterday (in a moment of madness) it had 23000 miles on it and it looked shagged. windows not fitting properly, seat coming of the subframe etc... looked at another to make sure (at a dealers) same crap. So i think it's def...

Re: 20K TO SPEND

20k on a classic BMW that'll hold its money and perform? The best M635 you can find? The best E28 M5 you can find? An 850 CSi? I think the E30 M3 is about to suffer the same "correction" in prices as some parts of the housing market. I'd not be buying one for investment purposes right now. The E28 ...

E46 M3, iv'e had both E30 and E36 versions and loved the E30 almost go-kart like feedback and the E36's ability to devour ground (but not involving enough) or possible the MCoupe Bread van with it's E30 underpinnings, possibly with the S54 lump.

20K TO SPEND

I've got 20k to blow and i'm not sure what BMW to blow it on. It has to hold value and still do the job it was designed for. I'm really hankering after a 2.5 Evo Sport, but me thinks after the cars i've had it might not be quick enough anymore, but the looks of it keep pulling me in. I need some hel...

Economy

What sort of reaslistic fueleconomy can you expect on motorway driving 90ish mph and 5 up with luggage. I am looking to buy a 325i or IF i can get one an alpina touring and do some euro mile munching. Figures for both would be good. Or should i go for an M3 instead. Anyway mpg for all 3 would be good.

BEST POLISH?

What polish do you use? I have been using Autoglym polish and then the resin coat'. Works well but does'nt seem to last long. When it rains and dries you can see the dried rain marks on the paint. So out comes the polish again.

It's Ԛ£450 for a full big service on my STI, and that is all fluids, etc... so maybe the scooby isn't so bad after all. Mind you upto Ԛ£500 for the front discs and pads depending on the set up.. A good specialist could service the M3 for a lot less and they know there way around them better.
