Re: 5 Series Forum???

I'm not the biggest fan of facebook but to be fair the 'BMW e60/e61 owners club official' seems to be the best I've come across so far.

Re: PS pump rebuild kits

Exactly right brian, the noise was produce by air repeatedly getting into the p/s system, once bleed it would be ok until the next time i used it where i would have to bleed it again (lock to lock).

Admittedly i chanced the pump was at fault hence replacing the seals, but it was a victory!

Re: PS pump rebuild kits

I fitted one when my pump became noisey, very easy to fit. I used a kit from a porsche 924/944 (same pump). It did work and the pump was nice and quiet when refitted, nice little victory for 20 quid or so and still going strong! Link to part i fitted https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-944-924S-968-pow...

Re: Lose camwheel on M40 engine

In short I would set engine timing, refit cambelt, turn over by hand and if ok carry out compression check then you'll get your answer, if compression is ok, start it!

Can't recall ever loosening a 'camshaft wheel' when fitting a timing belt on an m40.

Getrag input shaft bearing

Hi, Does anyone know what's involved in replacing a getrag gearbox input shaft bearing (vehicle is a m40 1990 model) Would this be a gearbox strip down job or is there a clever way of extracting the bearing with out pulling the gearbox apart. I"ve had a bit look about on tInternet but can't seem to ...

Re: M40 Cylinder head issues

Just a bit of a conclusion Brian. I didn't need to carry out any kind of cylinder or coolant system pressure check as I was greeted with a cylinder full of coolant before I started. With that in mind, I removed the cylinder head again. On removal i couldn't see anything wrong at all, everything seem...

Re: M40 Cylinder head issues

The head was not skimmed, I opted not to skim the head as the engine had not suffered any kind of overheating etc. There was a small amount of corrosion localised around a couple of the coolant ports on the head, but nothing I thought to be considered a problem, but I could be wrong! From the poor c...

M40 Cylinder head issues

I recently pulled my e30 out of the garage after standing for 3 years. The intention was to simply give it a bit of a service and book it in for MOT. However, I notice once started it was ticking over on 3 cylinders (M40 1.6), I removed the spark plugs and water was evident on cylinder 4 plug, after...

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration & Shake After Alignment

You say the wheel alignment and balance fixed the issue for two days, how well were the weights fitted to the wheels on wheel balance? Is not possible you've lost a weight or two.....just a thought!

I reckon without doubt it's worth 6k, pretty sure if you let this one slip through your fingers you'll probably regret it later on. E30s like this or dream finds in my view.

I bought a set of fuel pipes from BMW a few years ago. Surprised they were still available and at a reasonable cost of 29 quid for the 2 flow and return pipes. Fitting, to be fair it only took me about 90 minutes.(1.6 variant). The under floor fuel pipe brackets can be a pain to get off. Hope this h...
