Theres no point going for e30 m3 stuff unless you want 5 stud, in which case you can simply fit the drive flanges to (available new from bmw) to a standard e30 disc braked arm- the trailing arms are the same reason for going z3m is bigger bearings in the trailing arms and slightly stronger shafts to...

Re: Martin's second attempt at a rally car build
Top speed is 114 mph at 7350rpm which what the rev limiter is currently set at. Sixth gear is 0.96:1 For track work I would say this is far too short and would be leaning towards a 3.91 with an s54. When I ran the car with the s50 and and the standard 5 speed gearbox I had a 3.91 fitted. With a 4.45...

The diff ratio is a 3.62, but the gearbox has internal drop gears so give an effective ratio of 4.59

Re: Martin's second attempt at a rally car build
We did two events last year, a small local rally where we finished 11th overall out of 30 odd cars. it was a good shakedown for the jersey rally as i'd changed down to 15" wheels and skimped on the tyres by buying d-mack. it was quite a hot day as the event was run in June and i really wasn't a fan ...

Re: GKN cv joints / driveshafts
gkn are oem. no better or worse, with big power its the outer cv that starts going though not the inner. usually once you upgrade the shafts the next thing to go is the diff output flanges and you end up having to do both

Re: 5 LUG setup
The idea above would mean the rear end of the wishbone would be lower than the front which is undesirable as it causes odd changes in dynamic castor resulting in funny handling. With evo wishbones and hubs and eccentric bushes you shouldn't have any issues with un-centered wheels

This looks interesting - would like to know what gearbox and clutch/flywheel you used and if you have it running on the standard ecu and drive by wire setup?

Video below from 2014 Jersey rally which we finished in 21st out of 81 starters Largely uneventful with the exception of the gearbox oil cooler splitting at the start of the event, we cut the lines and bridged them to continue Bolts came out of right rear caliper bracket, lucky one of them just abou...

Re: Track or Rally Car Build Costs - how much have you spent
How does the cage looked compromised? Why would rally suspension be heavier? You wont be using a fan on track so that hardly a priority Why would you need to change the coilovers? the whole point in coilovers is that the springs can be swapped easily and cheaply. The cas is set up for tarmac so so t...

Re: Track or Rally Car Build Costs - how much have you spent
Track car and rally car will have very different budgets - also depends on how much of the work is farmed out and how much is done yourself. at a guess i would say I've sunk around 30k into my car as it is now. This would be double had i not done it all myself. Would realistically see about half bac...

Must be m30 3.5 - need the inner and outer rear drive flanges. Preferably someone with some brain power to remove them without wrecking them!

If your going rallying, then spend the money on parts that will keep the car reliable and improve performance, not on fibreglass tat which will weigh the car down, make it slower and spider web and fall off once you twat the rear end on a hay bail

Re: Martin's second attempt at a rally car build
Been a while side I updated this - didn't do anything with the car after the Jersey rally, I knew there was a list of things that really needed sorting so sort of buried my ahead in the sand for a bit. Couple of weeks ago decided it was time to crack on with it. First thing was to pull the motor out...
