I'm pretty sure it'll be mostly labour (parts are cheap) so call around and get a few quotes. I always get the parts myself, euro car parts is usually good. I had to get the gasket changed on my jeep recently, part was £100 from the dealer and £90 an hour, I got a gasket set off the web for £7 and f...

I had a similar problem, although not after an engine swap. I changed to slave/master cylinders and that fixed it. Parts are cheap as well.

fuel leak

Some fuel is leaking out of the pipe to the fuel tank, near the top. Can I just replace the pipe or do I need to change the tank at the same time? Also does anyone know a good place to get the parts?

I've had it looked at and it's the slave thats gone, why should both of them be changed at the same time? The bloke that looked at it said it should be fine just fitting a new slave.

I found one on euro car parts for £14.62 - not bad!

clutch problem

My BMW 316 (1989) has just been delivered back to my house after breaking down! The gears were a little rough earlier today and when I came to drive home it wouldn't select any gear with the engine running (although it would with it turned off). To move it for the truck I have to start it in reverse...

Right, mostly sorted now. Got the old cage out today by being rough with it, bent it up and pulled it out. My hazard warning switch poped out with it as well!

The cd player fits in fine now, all seems to work - i'm impressed. £60 with cd/mp3/usb/sd card.

Cheers for all the help!

I've had a go at removing the cage again with no luck. The stereo works fine which is good, I was expecting to have to buy extra odd adaptors with the car being so old. I've got a mechanic coming around to fix my jeep tomorrow so i'll get him to have a look, probally something simple. Thanks for all...

Re:

You've still got the black blaupunkt cage in there. You new unit will never fit with it in place. You need to remove that whole black cage and fit the cage that your head unit came with, in it's place. The Blaupunkt cage will be held in by bent tabs at the front (as has been explained above) and it...

I tried that when I first fitted the stereo but it didn't work, it seems to be connected in some way at the back. The plug looks almost like its hardwired into the case.

Re:

Hi I would take it all out including the cage and start from scratch. Use the cage that came with the radio, but do the wiring first but keep it out the way. Try the radio without the cage to see if it fits and fix the obstruction, then put the cage in, then the radio and then plug the wiring in ju...

From your replys it seems there is probally a special bracket fitted for the old stereo. It didn't have any wires coming out of it, there is just a plug in the back of the gap which the old stereo was pluged directly into. I put the adaptor that came with the stereo into this, tucked the wires away ...

I've tucked the wire away nicely, it just seems the gap isn't deep enough. The old stereo is quite a bit shorter. Is this normal for E30's, is this how the factory stereos come or is it some kind of adaptor?

stereo fitting problem **Pics added**

I recently removed an old Blaupunkt cassette/radio player from my 1989 316 which was easy enough. However this stereo is much shorter than the new one i've bought so the new one sticks out the dash quite a bit. Any ideas how to fix this?

oil leak

I took my e30 (1989 316 1.6L) in for it's MOT last week and it failed on a few things so it's back in for the work to be done on Tuesday. When they had it up on the ramp I was being noisy and noticed a leak coming from what I assume to be the gearbox, although (having owned mostly 4x4s in the past) ...

I've got a bmw 316, 1989 that's got quite a bit of rust on it. The previous owner put new pannels on the front but, as you can see from the pics, the back arches are looking shabby. What do you think is the best way to sort it? Pannels from breakers? New ones? I do know someone who does paintwork bu...

so you're going to fix up the car I hope? We'll I'm going to get the work done it needs for the MOT yeah. Everything else, like rusty arches, shabby drivers seat, broken sunroof etc I will leave. My jeeps are cleaning me out at the moment, that's why I got the bmw - much cheaper to run than a 4.7 V8.
