Re: scuttle rot
Apologies comming in late on this discussion but I had same problem, I took the plastic grills out and felt inside, theres loads of rubberised sealant and wax stuff and it appears that moisture takes a sneaky route via windscreen rubbers and then is held in place nice and damp behind all the bloody ...

Re: Removing the kidney grilles
As a quick extra note when you get it off the 2 chrome kidneys are held on by 4 plastic rivets, in middle of rivet is a plastic pin if you push pins out the rivets can be removed and the chrome comes away, easier to paint or in my case polish cos I like it shiney

Re: Replacing gearbox seals
Hi just done mine, needed to drop exhaust and prop shaft and remove gear linkages. I took gear box out and did all the seals and clutch however can be done in situ, trick is to ensure gear selector shaft is full in eg in 2nd gear. There is grove around selector rod and when fully in it allows you to...

Re: Is my head gasket blown?
I've had two heads go like this, really feel for you not nice
IF it is cracked (head gasket is a possibility) the crack wll run along bottom of camshaft bearings but difficult to see with oil and camshaft in place. It can be welded/ bearings re cut by expert but new casting is most reliable fix.

Re:
Dont worry about the center ofset, the original bearing is the same, the inner sleve is design to move within bearing, its quite stiff but you can re- centre it by hand if you want I guess idea is under pressure it will self centre.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Thanks, I'm just about to put it back together so timely advice.
Other thing i noticed is how slack a fit bearing is on guide tube, so its hardly gonna stick!
Thanks again.

Clutch bearing
Hi just wondered if all new bearings are plastic, I've bought a LUK clutch kit for my 325i which seems identical to original BMW kit fitted to my car except the bearing. The original one looks chunky is all metal and really well made, the new one has a really thin metal bearing face and is part plas...

Re: Gear Selector Linkage
Hi I'm very doubtful you would wear all new components out in the space of a year! Suggest you check a circlip has not come off before all falls apart OR check that as I found in the middle of renewing my gear shift for a Z3 one that the alloy selector rod the gear stick sits in has cracked. Cheers ...

Re: Fitting the locking ring on gear box out put shaft
yes, but took it out again and reshaped it back to round its now in tight but not in to recesses. I think with hind sight recesses are just to lever out the lock ring not to bend ring into.

Re: Fitting the locking ring on gear box out put shaft
Just pused in it doesnt bend into recesses much at all, but I think your right, a bit of a leap of faith is required that it will hold.
Thanks.
Thanks.
