The best thing for a turbo M10 is to use something like Weber Marelli (Sierra Cosworth) engine management - a complete loom and ECU won't be too dear. It's a system that works extremely well and is very adaptable. The 2002 crank will take 250 - 300 bhp and you'll need forged pistons and an E30 318i ...

Leaking from the slot in the bellhousing - classic case of the sump gasket gone. Take the front bit of the bellhousing off (four 13mm bolts going up into the block and about 4 torx bolts going in from the gearbox bekkhousing) and clean it up in there. Shine a torch up there and you will probably see...

It's fairly unlikely to be the rear crank oil seal on an M20. It's much more likely to be a shagged sump gasket which is very common on the M20. The gasket pops out at the back and oil leaks from the bellhousing area. These are a complete bastard as well. Exhaust downpipe off, AFM hose removed, loos...

The 325i throttle disc size is about 65mm. The throttle body itself is about 2 or 3mm thick so I don't see how you can get a bigger disc in. The engines Alpina built for the South African 325iS Evo supposedly used a 3.5 E34 throttle disc but they might have used the complete throttle body instead - ...

I put a 3.64 big casing 325i diff into my 320i which had a 4.1 small diff. Diff goes straight in once you've slackened the propshaft collar nut and pushed the prop in on its splines about 20 mm. I've found that the car goes better with the taller final drive. It now has somethiong to get it's teeth ...

And another one underneath so that wyhen the complete axle/diff is up in the rack, which one to slot into which shell. Most have disappe...

Hello Matt It could be a broken spring in the door pin - a trip to the scrapyard is the best option although a new one won't be much. As a temporary thing, add a couple of self adhesive sticky pads (for number plates and interior mirrors) on the inside of the door where the door pin touches. This wi...

It needs to be in a certain place on the TB so that you get a vacuum on part throttle. If it's on the engine side of the throttle disc you'll get vacuum advance when the engine is on idle/overrun, if it's on the AFM side it'll be advancing (if at all) on wider throttle openings. I've looked at an ol...

The M30 ones are no good - the stud pattern is different and the throttle disc opens anti-clockwise. The 325i TB can be fitted, but you will need the TB water pipes from the 325i, add a vacuum port on the TB for the distributor vacuum advance and cut/weld the throttle damper lever onto the 325...

The Motronic throttle body will bolt straight onto the LE Jetronic inlet manifold, once it's been suitably opened up with a dremel. The problem though is that generally, not many Motronic (i.e all 325i) throttle bodies have the small vacuum pipe take off for the distributor. The 320i manual has two,...

Yes, it will fit. BUT......the propshaft is about 30mm too long. To get around this, remove the exhaust centre box and the heat shield, slacken the big collar nut on the prop (just behind the centre bearing) and tap the end of the prop in on the splines. When the diff is on and the prop bolted up, r...

The better way of doing it is to use an E30 M3 gearbox (or E28 M535i, 635CSi) and use a bellhousing/clutch for a 1982 model USA 528e. This allows you to bolt up the stronger 265 Getrag 'box to an M20. The 6 Speed M3 E36 gearbox is okay, but there are no parts available to rebuild them when the syncr...

There will be a stamped in number with 2 or 3 letters after it. This is the serial number and from that we can t...

325i Tourings have the same suspension as the plastic bumper 325i Sport. But this just means the M Tech springs and some slightly better Boge gasdampers, not Bilsteins. If you ordered a standard 320i/325i with sports suspension, you'd get the proper Bilsteins! TCA is track control arm, or front lowe...

But to be honest, it's a waste of time anyway. The early cars (metal bumper) had a higher compression ratio and were not catalyst prepped so really, there isn't much to be gained - about 5 bhp if you're lucky because they have the fuel and the timing characteristics the engine needs. K&N filter and sports exhaust - waste of time. The first thing you need to do is fit a 325i throttle body so you can get a decent amount of air in. These engines were strangled to 120 odd bhp by BMW so that it would comply with German insurance regulations. A throttle body will cost about a fiver/te...

Chipped UK is correct - you cannot chip the old LE Jetronic ECU because it is an analoge system and not digital. Because Motronic combines fuelling with ignition control, a rechip will increase the fuelling and advance the timing here and there and because they ran so lean to cope with a catalyst (e...

The combo you want is a 3.64 or 3.77 diff with a close ratio Sport gearbox. The number to look for (stamped on the edge of the bellhousing) is a number ending in either HJ or TNN. TNW is a standard 325i box which is the same as the 323i and 325e Eta. It's a wide ratio unit and not that clever. Many ...
