Re:
Built a 2,7 lump about 2 years ago and the chip I had from another well known chip supplier acted like an on/off switch. You were either going at 90 or changing down to 2nd to keep it below 30. Also the map would switch off the petrol on the overrun so if you took your foot off the gas in any gear b...

Brian, One is a F reg 320i, second is a E reg 318i, third was 325I se G reg. Just noticed all are from the same dealer. (Trainer's in Swansea) Was there some sort of fix kit that the dealers added? because removing the fuse changes the idle speed (down by 100 rpm) Picking up a 320i touring tonight f...

What is this fuse for?
Under the steering shaft, next to the ECU is a single in line fuse joining two parts of the loom.
What is it for and what does it do?
On my first E30 I thought someone had added it, but all the ones I have looked at seem to have it.
Someone please help 'cause it is really bugging me.

Re: Taking the fun out of driving
Best bit of advice I can give - put a sign in the rear window saying "Sorry lads - 9 points" That way you will get LOADSA sympathy and no -one will tailgate/hoot/flash lights btw I'm 66 and have been lucky only ever to have had 3 points which dropped off in May Now this is a good bit of advice. Re: Taking the fun out of driving
update! for the last 3 days I have been driving exactly to the speed limit. Even done 20 in the 20 MPH zones at 7.30 am I can tell you this, I am on my own, no other silly bugger is doing it. I had to pull over twice to let the twenty or so cars behind me go. I feel such a prat! I had a speed camera...

Taking the fun out of driving
I'm old for a Zoner (56) Built and finished my 2.7, 4 door this year (what else would an old man drive) 35 years without a speeding fine But I have had 9 points this year alone, all for under 40 MPH and all in a crappy 1.6 astra estate caught on mobile camera. The 2.7 has a 4.1 diff and is wicked, b...

Re: Weird fuel pump problem.
had a good look at the old fuel pump I removed on Sunday, after-market crap. Replacement was a good second hand BMW unit. Old unit must have been out of pressure range - this would explain the bad idle. but I would still love to know why the car slowed down so dramatically when you lifted off, the i...

Ever since I bought my E30 I have had a driverbility problem. Take your foot off the go peddle and it slows down - yes I know they all do this - but mine was like driving into treacle. I even put in a 2.7L and changed the complete exhaust, rebuilt all the brakes, new prop bearing, damn near everythi...

Re: Loose feeling steering
Thanks for advice.
Had all 4 wheels balanced yesterday - all 4 were out - only did them a month ago.
had toe in set to 2mm
on the motorway today - a lot, lot better
I am going to change tie rods next week anyway, so this should remove the last little bit of play
Thanks all.

I have an e36 rack conversion. So much better, lock to lock. BUT........... Over 50 MPH the steering is very twichy and light. Gets so bad that you dont want to go over 70. Every thing except the tie rods has been replaced on the front end and the tie rods seem OK. Anyone else had this with the conv...

Of course the rust may have helped.
OEM front box - but 22 years old.
It was only your mild chip that kept it up with a milk float. For that, my thanks.

I have been owned by a 320i. for a few years now and I have always felt the car was ”awrong”a in the way it drove. But, hey it is a 320i. They got no pull ”“ right? So I dropped in a 2.7 lump - same wrong feeling ”“ this can’t be right because nothing was used from the old engine. So, new engine, ne...

Re: I have been unfaithful to my 320i.
The Torque on this 2.7 is just what I wanted. I really do live half way up a mountain in Wales and the 2.0 litre was just not up to it. Sheep were going up faster than me. The 2.7 on the other hand flew up in 4th. Mine was a budget build - low mileage (71K) 2.7 block, 2.0 litre flowed head, 2.5 ever...

I have a bronze, 4 door - 320i (some people are just unlucky) But I would kill anyone who tried to take it away. I enjoy this car more than any other I have ever owned. I would never put a 325 lump in it and spoil it. This is why I have gone staight to 2.7 with a 320i badge If you have a 2.0L chip i...

If your shocks are ok then GSF do a 40mm spring kit for about £50 which worked very well on my sons 318i.
I have a full set of Koni adjustable sports (35mm drop) on my car. You can ask advise on the night - Glad to be of help.
