Re: Crack growing in dashboard

Here's a step by step guide to changing the dash:

I've done it - it took a day but wasn't too bad so long as you remember to label everything as you take it apart

The symtoms certainly sound similar to when the battery has been disconnected and the ECU is 'relearning'. I think its normal to leave it running at tickover for 10 minutes to do this. However, I think the best thing is to get a new battery. If its playing up at all under the conditions you mention ...

Re: Which battery?

The Varta batteries were removed and set back to Varta who discovered that after almost 50 years in Salt water, 60% of the batteries would still hold a charge. You don't get that with Halfords! I don't suppose that Halfords go to that length to test their batteries though :D I've got a halfords hea...

I've had over 420 miles from a tank in my 325i touring on a long motorway run. That was from Fishguard in West Wales to London and then a return trip to Bournemouth the following day. And I wasn't dawdling along either. I routinely get 360 miles to a tank when doing my 8 mile town/cross country comm...

This would be a particularly useful addition. Is there any way the existing 6-button OBC gong could be wired up to do the job?

Just got the car back - apparently one of the link bolts needed tightening. It seems a bit better but I need to give it a good drive tomorrow. Why they couldn't find the loose bolt on my previous 2 visits is beyond me....

They didn't do the oil change either :(

Re: Failed MOT today

Its a real shame when this happens, but then they are old cars. Sounds similar to what mine recently failed on. The killer for me was the rear bake pipes, as you have to move the petrol tank and/or crossmember ... I hope its not the same ones you need. Front shock can be a PITA too and its best to d...

A couple of weeks ago my touring failed the MoT big time on front shocks, stabilizer bar links, rear springs and basically all the bake pipes. Sounds like the relay, mate. Its either the largest one in the fuse box (black ~8x3x3 cm), or if you have headlight wipers it could be the extra relay attached to the washer reservoir. If its the later you can disconnect that and windscreen washing will still work. Probably best to clean all the con...
