I don't know if you are still interested but I had the same problem on my 89 325, it turned out to be the os rear wheel bearing.

I was afraid my diff was on the way out and was glad to get it fixed so easily/cheaply!

I appreciate the input! MY exhaust is incredibly noisy. So for starters I'm going to to get that replaced. At least it should allow me to hear the various noises better. Is the fuel filter not under the rear passenger side of the car?

I was under the car and checked all the lines. There was no sign of petrol or a smell of it so I don' think it's that.

I assume it's not the "end" end!?!? Can it not be replaced?

I checked and fuse 4 was blown. There weren't any fuses in 3 or 16. So I took a quick spin to the local dealers and got one. They wanted a euro for it, but when I produced a 50 he said forget it...
