i had a similar problem and was told that the viscous fan was the cause. it is a common fault on e30s,luckily it is pretty cheap to change at aprox £50 including labour .

my 1990 320i cab is using a lot of fuel. the engine drives great no problems starting with no other obvious problems. i have owned a 320i previously which was not that bad. any ideas lads.

have a look on ebay, there is a company doing them for £800.

I am located near Manchester ,so a trip to Surrey would be a last resort . I have been to Halliwell Jones in Warrington and they said that they will have to e mail BMW in Germany to see if they can get the bits.

I have had the motors dissconected , but as suggested the horseshoe lid will not stay down. When the fitter looked at the motors he noticed that the hood had been converted to a electric hood using a lot of non BMW parts.This is probably why it kept braking. Can anyone give me any advice on fixing my e30 cab roof. One of the arms has snapped, i have had it welded but to no avail. Does any one know of someboby in the north west who will touch it. It is electric and can it be used manualy.
