Re: E28 M535 HARTGE (86)?
Well it is an old 5 series so no you cannot compare it to an M3 really. They are totally different cars.
however, he has owned both and if he says it goes and handles as well as his old one then cool beans.

Re: I.S. a good track car ??
All I can imagine is an iS struggling up hills. 130bhp at 1050kilos+ doesn't really cut it anymore :( I suspect it would be fun'ish, but desperatly underpowered Er not too many hills on trackdays i'e been on, as in trackday not hill climb, with an Evolve chip and lightened, it's nearly 150BHP ideal...

E36 328i info.
Hi guys, been offered a reasonably low mileage 98 Coupe for good money my way. It is an auto. Drives lovely. Assuming it is the later steel lined block on these. I have read a few times that the 325i manifold frees up some power with a spacer plate for the throttle and a re-map to take advantage of ...

Not to mention the small matter of power/weight ratio which an E30 M3 in standard trim does not exactly have in its favour stacked up against some hatches being produced today.HairyScreech wrote:i think people forget the handling of the ka is awsome for what they are, thats where they make up the time.

The car is old by standards now. Go drive one. Proof is in that experience......................back in their heyday not a lot could touch them and they are still just a 4 pot. What does everyone think of this, considering it's actually an E30 with a Z-axle? http://www.bmwworld.com/pics/concepts/14124_1024.jpg But it's not though is it? It has E30 running gear and a 325i lump but the way it handles and drives is total different. Nowhere near as lardy as an E30 cab. I'd ha...

Re: Bike carbs on an E30 - impressive.
The standard lump fitted with these & a four branch ashley system produced 159bhp at the wheels. That was 19bhp over standard. But it revved alot quicker & was still good on juice. http://www.boggbros.co.uk/index.html Standard 1.8 16v would of been 139bhp at the FLY not the wheels. But a 19bhp gain...

Loads more power and torque available from other engine choices though to be honest. Agreed the later S2000 engine in a BMW would be interesting.
