Was going to say - your best bet is to get it running, check the tyres are inflated, the brakes work, the lights, horn and wipers work and take it along to your local MOT station. If it passes then you've answered your question as to weather it'll go back on the road or not. If it fails, look at how...

I know a lad whos' fuel pump in his mini failed one night and left him stranded in the middle of nowhere. Now this is ingenious wombilng... He emptied out the washer bottle and filled it with fuel from a petrol can in the boot. Then disconnected the pipe that goes to the washer jets and attached it ...

considering how much it costs to start rebuilding engines though, longer throw sports cranks, regrinds, bearings, etc, etc, etc... it might be better to try and find someone with a crashed Alpina 2.7 or something similar and chucking the whole engine in. I'd always try and buy a ready built high pow...

If you want an insurable german cabrilot, consider a Mk1 Golf "Clipper" - it's got all the GTI bits on including a big bodykit but as it's a 1.8 carburettor engine it's pretty insurable.
If it doesn't have to be a cabby, then get a quote on a 318iS - they are very good!

3.5 engine? Either that or I believe the E36 2.8 may go in. Something multivalve might help? You can tune your existing engine but I'm a firm believer in, if you can bolt something in it's place that makes more power in standard form - do that, then if you still want more power you can do all the tu...

Cars are made to be driven - drive it everyday and enjoy it!!!!!! No offence to anyone, but it drives me up the wall when people have a nice motor sitting there and they hardly ever use it!!! Lack of use will prob cause more problems than everyday use!!! Seconded! Lets face it, the E30 M3 is a germ...

Everything on the 318iS is different compared to the 318i; sports seats, sports suspension, larger exhaust, disc brakes all round, BBS alloys and a 16 valve cylinder head.
I had a noisy timing chain on mine but a new tensioner and a days work sorted that out.

Just started looking for my next E30
I used to run a 318iS a couple of years ago. Absolutely LOVED it, great car (as I'm sure plenty of you know). I've decided that in the next few weeks/months I'm going to sell my Jeep and buy another E30. This time I want a big six cylinder one. I've been scouring ebay for 325's when I came across a ...

Re: 318iS Consumption
I'd start by servicing the car and checking everything. Something as simple as dragging brakes can cause a drop if MPG. My E30 318iS used to be a bit jeckle and hyde when it came to fuel consumption. If you were really gently with it, didn't rev it and didn't use full throttle it was excellent on fu...

It's a 2-door saloon as you can't get into the car through the boot, 3-door describes a hatch back.

I was just about to suggest what the first reply stated. If you can find one, get a 318iS. I had a red one and absoluely loved it. I seem to remember the insurance being pretty good too - think it was acutally cheaper than my Golf GTI. Certainly worth asking the insurance comapny for a quote.

i dont think you can tow anything heavier then the tow car without a different licence :? or is that an age thing, cant remember there is a rule about that im sure I'm old so I've got a licence with "proper" entitlements on it. (Plus have Fire Bridgade driver training at my disposal - which helps).

Re: Some info on Touring and iX needed please...
I'm no expert on towing stuff, but defintely find out about those weight ratings. The E30 isn't a heavy car, so towing another car and a trailer or a horse and a trailer might be pushing it. We used to have a Daihatsu 4x4 but sold it last year. You don't realise how much you miss having a tow car t...

I had a problem with my 318iS with "water mist" in the engine bay when the water pump failed - acted like a vapour spray. A visit to europarts and a new water pump sorted it out though.

Stud extractor? You'll get a set from Machine Mart.

I've got a set of P-slots on my Mk1 Polo. They are very common in 14" format and can be picked up very cheaply. Centre caps for them are very very rare though. 15" P-slots are very rare and demand big money. They were manufacurerd by Ronal. Mk1 Golf GTI wheels tend to have an offset of between ET35 ...

Top stuff. I guess an auto wouldn't be the end of the world anyway. It'd be to tow; * Horse trailer with 1x Horse (possibly two) * Car transporter with Mk1 Golf GTI (or occasionally Caterham CSR Se7en) Obviously not both at the same time. I'm guessing the iX Touring is quite a rare car? Is it perman...

Did BMW build an E30 325iX (4x4) Touring?
If so, did they build a version with a manual gearbox?
Anyone know the towing capacity (sad question I know) for a 325i and a 325iX?
Cheers,
Steve

The problem is though - the top and bottom coils are typically wound tighter than the rest so in an ideal world, you'd cut a coil from the "middle" of the spring.

lol.. they can pop out and go through the wing.. It's not going through the wing you have to worry about - it's going through the inside of the tyre wall. If you cut the springs you effectively reduce the spring rebound - not a good idea for predictable handling at all! Billstein will have spend th...

The PCD is 98x4 as oppsed to 100x4, however they will fit if you use concentric bolts. As stated above, you are likely to need spacers and you may need spiggot rings too.Bob_S wrote:will the integrale rims fit an e30? I'm sur the pcd is different?

I never found overtaking in the Integrale a problem. Jumped in it and drove straight away. The biggest "Oh I don't like this" moment tends to be the first time you reverse! My mate bought LHD Alfa Q4 2.0 16v Turbo 4x4. Drove it 200 miles without a problem then reversed it up his drive, went over the...

My mate had a 320i Touring E30 and the seats in it were horrible compared to my 318iS E30. I believe the E30 318iS seats are Recaros? Whatever they are - they were some of the best, most comfortable car seats I've sat in! If you can find an E30 318iS breaking, get the seats - I suspect they'd both s...
