Air Conditioning removal / disconnection.

Hi :)

Question 1

We are continuing with our M50 swap to our E30. Any precautions / methods for disconnecting / removing the air conditioning?

Question 2

When the M50 is removed is there any maintenance that would be beneficial, while it's out?

Hi Everyone :) We are starting our M20 to M50 swap this weekend after making the M20 go bang on our track car. What we have so far: Our E30 325i 1987 with dead M20 Our donor car is: E34 525ix auto(dead) M50 touring 1993 Oct (which I think means Vanos) With aircon so we should have electric fan. Any...

Re: E30 325i power loss

Sounds like your fuel pump relay could be on its way out. They tend to die over time rather than just work one minute and not the next, giving you all sorts of intermittent problems. Mine did the exact same and after literally cleaning the pins on the relay the problem went away although not comple...

Re: E30 325i power loss

It could also be the pump itself slowing down so it can't keep up with demand, lift the back seats and undo the black cover on the drivers side so you can hear it running. Hi :) We replaced the pump last year after it failed. So in theory it should be ok :/ Our pump is not under the back seat like ...

Re: E30 325i power loss

did it stutter mate or just loose power completely Hi Ben :) Just cut out with total power loss. It did have a little splutter here and there but more of a total loss. (inside the working rev range she was fine) A bit like when you hit the rev limiter. The engine was still turning from our momentum...

E30 325i power loss

Hi :) Any help would be appreciated. (1986 e30 325i) While on the track at Oulton Park on Friday 12 Dec 2008 we had a problem with our car. The first few laps and she was flying round, our head gasket and clutch change had worked well. Then in third gear she would not rev past 5000rpm in 2nd she wou...

If this is a track car, you'd be well advised to ditch this primitive system in favour of a later one, so that you can do a little mild tuning.
Can you expand on this for me, please cps? thanks

Re:

Doesn't explain about the lack of power to the ignition coil though. Sorry, Wrong thread!! Although you said it was the wrong thread we did think we had that problem. On the coil there are + and - signs buy the terminals, so we put a tester across them and received no reading. Later we discovered t...

fixed it :)

Swapped the position and speed sensor cable connectors around! Not sure whether we have fixed the problem or bypassed it but she now works.

Yes it is the old system with sensors on the bell housing.

Let us know if we have not really fixed it ;)

Thanks

no power to the coil. Chsanged coils and no 12 v reading from coil terminal. Power at ignition swirch and startor motor? No power at wires leading to coil? Re: overheating E30 325i M20 1986

Because it stops the coolant from circulating until it boils! Holding the expansion tank up[ won't help, you need to raise the car to encourage the air to move towards the front of the engine. Does your heater blow hot air? Hi Chris The heater has had all the knobs removed as we have no dash board....

its an airlock in the coolant system guys. you need to bleed the system down. getting a stubborn airlock out can be a pain in the arse. Thanks Scott :) Is there any way to tell if we have removed the airlock as the car is not insured etc so its working out to be expensive testing at track days! Tha...

overheating E30 325i M20 1986

Hi :) We have an E30 325i 1986 M20. We use her for track days. After about 2 - 3 laps she dumps all her coolant out of the expansion tank. We have changed the tank and the cap with no improvement. Example: race 2 - 3 laps and the temp is fine and then suddenly goes straight into the red as she dumps...
