Re: M40 Not starting
i had a prob recently of no spark into the distributor from the coil.voltage at the coil being fine. Also fuel pump would not work.Ended up being the crank position sensor that had failed.but i hear this is very rare. is this the plug underneath the air intake from the throttle? yes.sometimes moistu...

Re: M40 Not starting
The battery can read 12v but have no amps behind it, that is the reason one load tests a battery, a multimeter will only give you an indication of what voltage it is carrying, not its capacity (amps=POWER!!) The only case in which a battery would read 12V but have no current flow would be if there ...

Re: M40 Not starting
so now you have to find where the break is!. Assuming there is a break, i would get a reading of 0V at the coil and not 3V surely? I very much doubt that you have 3 volts there. That's why I wrote "Put the meter back in the cupboard, and use a 12 volt 5W or 21W bulb for your testing." Meters give m...

M40 Not starting
I have a late 91 318i M40 that won't start. The car had been lying for around 6-8 weeks. It had a fuel leak from underneath the inlet manifold from one of the short rubber hoses which connects to the injectors. I replaced this hose and refitted everything as it was, including all plugs and hoses. I ...

Re: Idle issues
did it on my 318i cabrio... Pulled the electric plug out of the ICV let the car run for a short while and plugged it back in. That worked for a while, and then i realised there was a small break in the plastic connector on the engine end of the throttle cable which let it become more loose than norm...

Re: E30 M40 Idle problem
Fixed it... Pulled out the plug from what i think was the icv at the base of the windscreen and then started the car, idled and drove like a dream, parked up again, put the plug back in, it died first time. So once again i pulled the plug started the car, turned it off, put the plug back in, started...

Re: E30 M40 Idle problem
Mine has low rough tickover too. Is yours like mine El-Fishe, runs beautifully, goes well, just doesn't like idleing? Mine seems worse if under load too - by which I mean heater fan, headlights, heated window etc. Exactly the same, if i switch everything off, lights, stereo, etc etc it idles low, b...

E30 M40 Idle problem
Hi guys, this may or may not have been addressed before but, i've got a really really niggly problem with the motor, It's begun to idle really low, talking around 5 or 6 hundred revs. It occasionally cuts out too when coming up to junctions and lights with the clutch down etc. Sometimes its fine but...
