M30 wont turn over.
Evening, Due to circumstances way beyond my control my M30 engined motor has sat with the engine in many pieces for 3 months awating a new head gasket. Anyway, yesterday I put it all back together, have left off the leads and no coolant as Ijust want to spin it. It turned fine by hand. I've charged ...

Re: Slightly pitted block, can I help it before fitting new
nah, the few mm around the bores is good, it's beyond the 'metal rings' that the pitting has occured.

Slightly pitted block, can I help it before fitting new HG.
I'm verging on the edge of bolting my car back together with a new head gasket, the head's been skimmed and rebuilt at great cost... My block is slightly pitted, especially around cylinder 6. Will this be a problem? (I'm not taking the block out!) will the gasket take up the slack or is there a seal...

Re: look, what the hell is the deal with the rockers on my M
I've just stared at it for 15mins, the ONLY thing it can be is that the rocker shafts are in wrong, it's only the last 3 rockers on the inlet side that are out but that could be chance... It, just can't be anything else. The top pic is the 3rd rocker, 1 & 2 look the same I'mnot going to be happy if ...

Re: look, what the hell is the deal with the rockers on my M
I didn't build this head back up so I don't know if it's right.
the rockers are part no. 1271836 except for:
4&6 on the exhaust and 2, 3 & 6 on the inlet which are 1271836.9
any reason for this?

look, what the hell is the deal with the rockers on my M30?
Just sitting in the living room setting the valve clearances (as you do.) I get to the inlet rockers on 4, 5 & 6 (3 at the back of the engine) and they look different, the rocker isn't central on the tappet. Is this right, it looks wrong, the rocker is up against the little circlip on the cam. M30 3...

Re: Got my head off, take a look.. what do you think?
Right. Head is now done. Pressure tested ok to 70psi, took a skim ok, new valve stem seals and valves ground in giving zero loss of vacuum pressure. Now to put it back together and hope it wasn't a cracked block all along... 8O I take it the bores, block surface and head have to be cleaner than an o...

Re: Got my head off, take a look.. what do you think?
Spadge, how should I clean the block up, how can I decoke the top of the pistons?, I can still see the hone marks in the block so I really don't want to be messing about down there with files and the like. Re: Got my head off, take a look.. what do you think?
well, the head is being pressure tested over the next few days, interesting how they do it actually, pretty old school. IF (big IF) it passes that, then it's going on the 'straightness tester', if it passes that, then a 0.3mm skim and a vacuam test on the valves. (can't rebuild the head, just too mu...

Re: Got my head off, take a look.. what do you think?
I thought the head bolt channels would be isolated from the oil channels, they were covered in thick black filth. Old oil? hmm
The oil that came out of the sump was very clean. I thought the head bolt channels would be isolated from the oil channels, they were covered in thick black filth.
How do I check the rings. oh no, not more work...

Well, after some overheating, the garage tested my coolant and diagnosed head gasket. Garage has phoned, it's the headgasket.
£450 to fix, I've had the car running for one week, what a great f**king purchase.
Will probably just punt on for parts, can't afford to pour money at a basket case motor.
