Re: Lambda Sensor, is it worth fitting one?
It uses it to fine tune the fuelling. I'm more familiar with later motronic systems but the idea is the same. The later systems have two "fuel trims" one which is additive and one which is multiplicative. While your driving, the ECU adjusts the mixture to its optimal point and over time "learns" by ...

Re: Strut Reassembly
Also the bump stop seems to me to be upside down in most of the photos. If you notice, the stop has a rib on its bottom edge in the photos, theres a corresponding rib in the dust jacket, and the stop should be the other way up and inside the jacket engaged into that rib, with the conical area poking...

Re: Strut Reassembly
I dont think the first photo of the bump stop is right, The stop is going to mash into and destroy the dust jacket, as its larger than the hole. The very last picture, with the bump stop inside the jacket is the best one, you'll find that if you push the bump stop right up inside the jacket it will ...

Re: Pre facelift headlight loom
The three pin plug shown looks like a standard H4 bulb connector, so its only going to plug in if you currently happen to have headlights which use a H4 bulb?

I guess its at least worth a visual inspection, if it looks fubar then go from there.
Will i need to remove the exhaust to get the heatshields out, or will they squeeze out past it?

I wouldnt start beating lumps out of it, as bear in mind the 20 year old pinion shaft bearing on the diff is taking all the force from everything you throw at that shaft.
Grinder or sabresaw is what i'd use.

Re: Drivetrain noise, any ideas?
Interesting that theres a bearing on the prop...
That would run at road speed, and presumably would be unaffected by load as its only really supporting the weight of the prop...
Is there any way to check it?

Re: Which Springs for my track slag
H&R's on mine are pretty hard.
Low isnt really desirable anyway. Handling requires sensible suspension geometry, and dumping the car on its ass ruins most of the geometry.

Go for something on the stiffer end of the scale then, perhaps H&R?
Eibachs are typically very soft and comfy for road use.

Drivetrain noise, any ideas?
Ok so as previous post ive been driving my brothers E30 while my own car is off the road, and i'm sorting out the niggles it has to we can put it up for sale once my cars sorted. The car has a whine coming from the drivetrain, which my brother thaught was the rear diff. Its had this whine for a long...

Re: Odd Handling Issues
Thanks guys. The rear tyres are brand new T1R's, so i'd hope they're fine. I'll check the steering bits over the weekend, sounds like that could be the culprit if its not the rack itself. Got some other bits under the bonnet to take care of anyway. Good tip on watching the beam bushes moving while j...

Re: Odd Handling Issues
Yeh i'll have a good look over it at the weekend. I dont think its a bearing, as if it were i recon i'd feel the effect on every change of direction as the wheel moves back and forward. They're quick and easy to check though, so i'll do that. If its the rear beam whats involved. I've never actually ...

Re: Odd Handling Issues
Yeh thats kinda what i was leaning towards. Most of front end is in effect new, but the rear i have no idea about, so can probably assume its old!
What sort of a job is replacing the rear beam bushes?

Odd Handling Issues
I've borrowed my brothers E30 318iS, and have been giving it a bit of a shakedown after it been laid up all winter. At the end of last summer, the car was fitted with new shocks all round, with new top mounts, new front wishbones, track rod ends and poly wishbone mountings. It had the front alignmen...

Stalling/Running issues
I was fixing a few brake lines on the car at the weekend, and now i'm having some running problems. The car is a 318iS. The lines we changed were the long front to rear and one of the short ones at the rear. The car is now very unhappy, it wont idle properly, missfires a lot when cold and seems very...

the only concern i'd have is that quite often the aftermarket lamps have pretty bad quality projectors in them, which may mean DIY is a better approach

What exactly would make it weak running 4wd in an iX?
surely if you used the impreza transaxle instead of the iX gearbox it'd be fine...

Re:
the only legal way of keeping existing id is with a NEW monocoque and a certain number of parts from the old vehicle
an already registered monocoque will require you to either keep it on its own plate registered as a 316i with 2.5 engine etc or registered as a sport which will put it on a q plate

Re:
aren't u a little worried about boost distribution across all 6 pots, turbo plenums are usually tapered to try to keep flow even across all cylinders, u may find that the front few cylinders end up running lean and rears rich due to the distribution on that plenum!
