Re: Head gasket may have gone

be careful that's it not your radiator cap gone as when the cap fails the there is a cut out where it screws on to drain away and where it drains makes it look like the rad has failed when it hasn't. when the cap fails the system isn't pressurized causing the coolant to boil out the cap making it ov...

the TPS should click as you just open the throttle. the car doesn't need to be on. if it doesn't click the car wont go into idle 'mode'.

Re: m40 starting and running issues

if it doesn't go above 5kish,taps like mad it might be the camshaft wear, its very common on these M40 engines. (i have changed several camshafts, rockers and tappets because of this wear) also check piping for the inlet etc as these perish with age (i have a m40 that i had to do that) also clean the...

take the earth off the battery, put a multimeter in between the negative terminal of the battery and the chassis to see what the drain is. then get someone to pull a fuse out 1 at a time to see when the drain goes to 0 as there shouldnt be much more than 0.5 of an amp. that will show what circuit has...

Re: idles up and down

idle up and down is due to an air leak as the car compensates then stops as it reaches the correct idle but when it stops the idle drops then it starts the cycle again . can of brake cleaner/carb cleaner around the inlet/hoses etc. and listen for the engine to change note as that will indicate a air...

it has to be in the same position you took it out, especially if you took it out of the engine, you should of put it at top dead centre marked on the dizzy where the rotor is pointing and then remove it as it could be totally out hence your question. so i bet it doesnt run now or well ? there must b...
