Cheers for confirming my conclusion of new tyres. In her defence I don't think that she has done the tyres in her self.

bulging in the tyre side walls
Hello, I noticed yesterday that my bird's Yaris has several bulges on 3 of the 4 tyres, goodyears, the bulges are quite symmetrical. They are the OE tyres so they are from week 30 of 2001 so probably out of date really. I thought that they definitely need changing until I felt the tyre of the car pa...

Side lights on and I'm getting 50mV across GR/R,GY/V, Gr/Y,GR/BL and brown, plugs of the bulb tester unit, turn the side lights off and there is no reading on the voltmeter. presumable this is an induced emf effect? At one moment I did get the brake lights on. but needless to say I have not been abl...

Happily the car has been repaired by the insurance company, with a new door and they needed to respray the front wing too. So it is looking slightly better than before!

No Brake lights?
Hello, I have no brake lights. all other lights work fine. I did blow the number plate fuse when I was checking for a voltage with my multimeter on the number plate light contacts. It was around this time that the brake lights check controller light came on. I swapped the brake bulbs for the fogs an...

Re: Fitting a scrapie/new door?
She only seemed interested in going down the insurance route. it was her first claim ever, and rightly thought i've forked out all these years. The estimate was sent to the insurers yesterday at approx. £800. which is irritatingly close to the market value...or rather hard to argue it much higher th...

Re: Fitting a scrapie/new door?
I'm not likely to be selling it on any time soon. but good point. going down the write off route looks pretty un-attractive and could drag on and on. So I hope to be able to do a cash settlement. the old girl lives in a house>£500K so hopefully will be able to stump up. Her note eludes towards a non...

Fitting a scrapie/new door?
Hi, I have a 1985 e30, 323i, 72Kmiles in mint condition, correction this morning it was. A neighbour has managed to reverse into my drivers door so hard that the panel is bent around some bar in the door just above the running strip. this is not going to pop out or pull out. I'll be gutted if anothe...

Flat wipers don't seem to flex enough for our quite curved screens edges so I'd not recommend them to anyone after my experiments. although to my ear they are much quieter at Mway speed than double spoiler conventional wipers. GSF and Eurocarparts do wipers blades as do autobulbs.co.uk...any of thes...

I plugged the socket back in and the central locking is working as it was designed. ...

Mobil 1 too thin? Thinness is not really anything to do with oil leaking? If you look at the data below from mobil's and castrol's website, you'll notice that the viscosity at 40 degree C is 80 centistrokes i.e. thickish. then when the oil heats up and thins to 14 centistrokes at operating temperatu...

Re: Engine sometimes takes a few seconds to fire up
Hard hot starting is likely to be a vacuum leak associated with the vacuum control unit. I fixed an e36 with this problem only in an advanced state that you had, with a pair of scissors...i snipped off the 5mm of perished hose and the car ran fine...i wish i had been able to get the car for a pint l...

what has you mpg been like recently? if it has been declining slowly then perhaps check the fuel pressure regulator. i had a hot start problem that went to stalling when hot because the engine was been flooded.

middle exhaust section clearance
Just put a new section on and going over sharp bumps cause the rear tubes of the middle section to clunk against the rear cross member, the bar that the drive shaft goes through. Could anyone just have a quick look to see what their clearance is. I have around 3-5 mm!

The NGK one's i just put in where at least welded in at 60 degree intervals as they all where in line with a point on the hex nut, i did not look to see if the helix opened at the same point on each.

Stainless steel fasterners
Anybody know as good supplier, i had some on my exhaust 5 years ago and they came off nice and easy compared to the one or two steel ones that had to be cut off.
Just wanted to get myself stocked up on the good stuff so when ever i take something off i'll swap on the stainless bolts!

Re: facing spark plugs towards the induction charge
That was what i was assuming, but seen as i was putting them in thought it would be interesting to see where the 'fork ends up facing. Looking at the valve gear diagram on realoem it appears that there are 6 pairs of valves on a 12V, which i have, rather than 12 valves in a row, so that would mean t...

I saw carbibles discuss this and i have a couple of questions a) is it worth it? b) cylinders 1,2,3 and 6 are spot on 4 and 5 are ~ 130 and -90 degrees away from where they should be, in my mind, to be facing the charge, i.e. pointing up towards the valve. c)where do you get these 1/4 turn crush was...

The car is in neutral all the spark plugs are out and i simply can't turn it on either of the two possible attachments. Has anyon...
