Re: Parasitic battery drain.
Hi Brian, thanks for picking this up, I forgot to mention that I noticed the hazard indicator button was sticky also. I pressed it on and off a several times after which it worked properly, maybe that could have been the culprit?

Re: Parasitic battery drain.
Update, It turns out that the electric window isolator switch was causing the drain, it was very sticky from lack of use, so I opened it up and cleaned it with ptfe spray and now the drain has dropped to 14.2 milliamps! Result woohoo!

Re: New front disc brakes for my 320i
Some of these "high quality" pads eat brake discs. If you have super hard pads, the disc wears instead of the pad. A standard pad will work just as well and your discs will last longer. ( assuming it's for normal road use)

Parasitic battery drain.Solved
Hi , I have a 73 milliamp drain on the circuit fused by no 21. I've checked all the interior lights including the glove-box and boot, they both switch off. The interior lights switch on and off with the door switches. The radio has been removed the wires are all clear. And the glove-box torch is not...

You might want to check the si board batteries, if they leak they can cause strange effects, and damage the board.

Re: which nissens radiator for 325i 1991?
I'm not familiar with the ac, but if the evaporator sits in front of the radiator then my guess is you need the thinner radiator to improve clearance.. This info should be in the description of the part, ie a/t a/c.

Hi, There is a different rad for auto/manual. The cappped holes on the side are for automatic transmission fluid cooling The manual version doesn't have this extra chamber, so it will be cheaper. You can use the auto version in a manual car but not vice versa. I've only ever used Nissens rads so I c...

Re: parasitic amperage drain ?
I've changed the si board for another spare (also lithium batteries ). The draw has fallen to 0.07 on the 10ma setting. 70ma ? This si board is not illuminating the 2nd green led from left. Is this another typical lithium powered fault ? (system was reset) http://i572.photobucket.com/albums/ss167/as...

Re: parasitic amperage drain ?
Thanks Brian, I must be reading the meter wrong. I had a look at the si board, no leaks from batteries, three leds are lit, and the inspection light is on. the board looks new, the batteries are at 3v, and don't know how to isolate pin 2. On close inspection there seems to be a repair to one of the ...

Hi, I've traced a .271amp drain on the battery (all systems off) back to the blue plug on the instrument cluster. When it's disconnected the draw falls to .004a It's the Circuit fused by no. 21 (7.5a). No stereo system or alarm currently fitted, and everything seems to work properly inc. instruments...

Re: 323i exhaust
I'm guessing the exhaust pipe comes out on the off-side because in Germany etc. the pipe would be further away from the sidewalk, ( less chance of poisoning pedestrians )
Not familiar with the 323i exhaust system but I'm sure an upgrade would be straightforward.

Thanks Brian. the engineer had a quick look and reckons .020" or 0.5 mm could be enough. Will the compression ratio be ok if I use a standard thickness gasket with .5mm shaved off ?

I filled it up and bled it last night , ran it on idle for twenty mins with no issues and then drove it. Re: m20b20 rebuild advice sought.
Any thoughts on the head gasket with the restricted coolant holes ? Most of the images available seem to be the same, Is this designed to direct the flow of coolant ? Having the head gasket jutting into the coolant jacket seems undesirable. You're right there Brian re the corrosion, it is far more a...

Re: m20b20 rebuild advice sought.

I need to keep the cost to a minimum and was hoping to do most of the re-build myself. Hopefully the machine shop will just need to take the absolute minimum off the block and de-glaze the bores for me.
Is it possible to re-build the bottom end myself ?

m20b20 Big end shells
The Bentley manual states the different sizes of the bearings according to colour, including the main bearings. I've found red paint on the crank, green paint on the block (rhs of main bearings in pic) and a green spot on the 1st and 3rd con rod caps. May be able to get the right sizes without measur...
