Re: Seized horizontal front door lock?
If the lock is jammed at horizontal and the passenger door lock works This is precisely the case. :) So I guess I'll try removing the lock, and have a look at it. The most probable cause for your problem is that the driver's lock barrel has been changed at some time, and you don't have the key. Hav...

Seized horizontal front door lock?
My driver's side door lock has been seized in a horizontal position since I've had the car - I've always used the passenger side lock to open the car! Reading up on how to remove the door cards (now done) to allow me to remove the lock, I found a mention of a dead-lock function, and the post s...

Getrag gearboxes' strength?
From old discussions on other car forums, I understand that the Getrag boxes in BMWs are pretty good strong boxes, and are sometimes swapped out into other makes to cope with tunes engines. 8) Does anyone have any information about the strength of the various Getrag 'boxes available? I assume the 'b...

Re: More fuel pump problems - replacement 'filter socks'...?
Thanks for the link!
The pump I've got sitting here is (I believe) from a 318i. The pump spigot is 19mm, so it looks I've got quite a choice. The filter is ~105mm x 50mm.
I like the look of G on the second page best

More fuel pump problems - replacement 'filter socks'...?
Can you get replacement 'filter socks' for fuel pumps? I received a 2nd hand pump from another member, which works perfectly, but I stupidly broke the filter sock that sits on the bottom of it  :-x :x It's from a 318 rather than a 320, so the sock I already have isn't compatible. I've tried BMW...

Re: Fuel pump help needed!!
It's a bugger. Someone on another board got three E30 pumps from a scrappy, and only one worked - it may well be a 'feature' of these pumps. If I try and get one from a scrappy, I'll have to take the battery with me to test it! Alternatively, someone suggested trying to stick any other brand's cheap...

Fuel pump help needed!!
My fuel pump had been sticking on startup, so this evening I swapped it for a replacement purchased from a bloke on here. The car won't start. I've checked the power lead: the pump power cable provides good voltage on turning the engine over. I've removed the fuel pipe and cranked the engine over, a...

Couple of fuel pump questions...
I've got a sticky fuel pump - it's needed a bang to start up on three occasions today. I phoned a local BMW dealer and they quoted £178? - I've got a 1987 320i (Motronic) - will this have the single in-tank pump, or the two-pump setup I've read about? - where's my best source for a decent cheap re...

The LED was (and still is) fine
It's a 12v one with an inbuilt resistor.
Having seen the diagram, I'm happy I did it correctly. I guess it just doesn't work for my model of ECU.

Re: ECU & ECU check light questions...
Update: This doesn't appear to work, disappointingly. I took the ECU plug out, took it apart, and found pin 15, which appears to have a plain grey wire coming from it ( can anyone point me towards a pin/colour diagram to confirm this? ) I spliced into this wire, and connected an LED between it and t...

Re: ECU & ECU check light questions...
You can even use a couple of pins in the diagnostics plug under the bonnet; 17 (ECU output) and 12 (Switched +12V) IIRC: http://pinouts.ru/Devices/car_diag_pinout.shtml (You just need to hook a 12V bulb across them, though I've yet to try it, so don't blame me if it all goes horribly wrong  :...

Re: What's meant to be here, where I've got this lump of tap
Righty... I've explored the connection where the multiplug used to be. I'm going to leave it alone for the time being, as it looks decently done, and re-doing all the connections (including soldering them) would be a nightmare as there's not much play in the wires and it's difficult to get to: http:...

Parts needed to 'do' intake manifold gasket?
I'd like to replace this, to rule it out as a cause of the problems I'm having.
Obviously, I need an IM gasket, and I'll get a TB-M gasket as well; what else might I need?
Oh, and what's the best guide to follow?
Thanks
