Re:
To be honest, if using a standard E30 steering rack, a RHD S54 should give closer to claimed factory power than an S50 engined E30 unless some very good manifolds were used on the S50 Mate's one made 347bhp anyway I think or something like that. it was running a link ECU however although wasn't full...

They can make very fun track cars really! Here's a friend in his S54 E30 having some fun followed by another mates E36 M3 Evo.
S54, carbon airbox, ecu, GAZ gold coilovers, 4.27 cwp and cut slicks all round on 17x8.5 and 10s!

Re: Tyre size
205/55 is the orginal recommended tyre but many believe (myself included) that they handle much better on a decent 205/50 and look better too if lowered a little. 205s are much easier to get and cheaper for decent tyres too. If the car is all orginal though and on standard suspension, probably bette...

Hi Barry! Seen your new one alright, must have another look at the thread. Haha, yea... Been away from the E30s for abit due to playing with landrovers as I needed a Defender for work and then been messing around with the E46 for the last while. Probably get my iS back together during the winter to ...

1500 quid for a rusty old M10 turd???
What are we missing here?
Lowish mileage I suppose but hardly matters when it's already rusty and M10 316 running gear with low mileage is hardly something to get excited about anyway

Re: E30 as a track car
Like for like, an E36, E46 or E92 trackcar will be alot faster but even though my E36 and E46 M3s would blow most E30s into the weeds in terms of pace, I still find my E30 hugely entertaining to drive as it just feels more involving since it's so much smaller. For shear fun and entertainment, a good...

Whats a resto M3 worth these days?
So I may have found an Evo 1 that is in need of some serious TLC (think reshell if it was any normal E30) Guy is away with the fairies with how much he thinks it's worth but it got me wondering, whats an E30 M3 that needs more or less a full resto such as what xworks did with his these days and how ...

Re: can your get an iron exhaust manifold planed?
Clamping the manifolds is awkward but other than that, it's a very basic task and it's the same as skimming a head or block. I skimmed the cast exhaust manifold on my TD5 Defender twice as they kept warping and snapping studs. Fitted an aftermarket one then though and had no more issues :) Machined ...

Re: lollipops offset or standard?
If E30 bushes are 1mm bigger than an E36 bush, I'd fooking hate to try fit an E30 bush into the lolipops as the E36 ones are a tight fit as they are. 1mm is a big difference in something that's a press fit and you'd know it pretty quickly if it was true. I've been fitting E36 Eccentric bushes to loa...

Re: RE: budget coilovers & top mounts ?
Yep, both will fit fine. As for the coilovers, you really get what you pay for but the Joms/FKs etc are fine for "lows" and "stance" if that's what your after.
Personally, I'd save for a set of BC racing proper coilovers

Re: E36 wishbone fitment
Lots of E36 owners fit E30 versions due to the stronger balljoints.
Only wishbone that's of any use to an E30 is the Evo one if your trying to sort your castor out when fitting E36 5 stud bits.

That's sitting perfectly in my opinion.
Even standard E30 318iS mtec springs have a nice rake to them.
This is how my other iS used sit on standard suspension

Re: HID vs LED Cree for elipsoid head lamp
LED headlamps to match the performance of HIDs are about 250-500 quid! I've HIDs in mine in all fogs, low and high beams and find them brilliant. Even the low beam units alone are well worth it. They're getting strict here now though with only allowing cars with OEM HIDs and must have leveling, head...

Re: 318iS or 328 conversion
I'd go 2.8 if insurance isn't a problem especially with a Touring with it being abit heavier so the extra torque (and there is alot of it) from the 2.8 would be an advantage. Also, A 2.8 with the right choice of gearing will do just as good fuel economy as an M42. Not that the M42 isn't a nice swap....

Eibach springs give abit of a rake look anyway but it's only slight. personally, I like it
Your old springs could have been just very sagged as Dan says and now your just not used to how an E30 is suppose to sit
I'll see if I have any pics from the side when my iS was on the B12s

Correct backlash is around 1.6mm or little but less so something is wrong alright :D The sealer shouldn't make as much difference. Right. The E34 sump will fit on the block fine but due to the M57 sitting at the same tilt as an M20, the M50 sump will sit at a angle underneath so the left side will sit lower. Will have to be cut and modified for ir to sit level. Also obviously needs a boss for the oil-return line but that's a sm...

You sure about that Dan? :) It was the M47 that had the issues with interchangeability. Pity as the 320d engine would be lovey in an E30. The M57 is fine though. E35 M5x sumps fit no problem if its the early M57 (184bhp) engine. I think the later 204bhp M57n is different alright though. I'm putting ...
