Drum system Handbrake cable clip, is it this one?
Was checking my rear brakes the other day and noticed that this clip that sits in the backplate was rotten and had broken in two leaving the cable sleeve loose in the back plate. Have rang up BMW parts dept today who weren't very helpful as to which clip I needed and said it might come with the hand...

Re: M42 expert help needed!!
Well after another day looking at the m42club, I am still none the wiser.
Some say fit the E36 m42 as it is but swap the engine mounts to m40 units.
Others say swap the inlets? others say swap all the wiring.

Re: M42 expert help needed!!
Thanks for the help so far, I have looked endless times on the m42club and have seen mixed opinions as to what can be used exactly. I've been told that the E36 inlet will hit the bonnet although i've measured the engine height compared to my m40 and it seems lower. Ive changed the dual belt system i...

Re: Clutch pedal and fluid problem
It'll most probably be your clutch master cylinder leaking aswell Lift the rubber boot round it on the inside and check for any brake fluid thats leaking down onto the firewall which should be cleaned appropriately.
Replace them both as a pair as it'll save you hasstle in the long run.

Gearbox sounds a little worn fella. Or it could be thrust washers on the crank, but I doubt it.

Re: Fitting an E36 steering rack
Use the manual mounting holes to fit the rack (bolts up), and i'm sure you can use the standard UJ.
You can bend the e30 feed pipe I think to fit.

Re: engines,318is...318ise twincam?????????
is a m40 1.8 gearbox longer than a 1.6 one i have a wider diff (mid case i think) but the 1.6 dont have much top end speed (112 mph apparently) so fitting a m42 with the m40 box wouldnt be much different would it You can get 121mph out of an m40 1.6! Can't confirm this though as the speed limits 70...

Re: engines,318is...318ise twincam?????????
You might be able to find an E36 M42 easier, but finding the rest of the bits to make it fit is going to be a massive headache. Can't be that difficult to use an e36 lump, the flywheel and clutch from the m40 can be used along with the m40 gearbox as the block is the same, then theres the problem w...

Is there no way that the e36 m42 intake manifold could stay on the engine? Or is there a height issue? Could it be rectified using smaller engine mounts?
Sorry for the thread pinch just trying to get you some more engine choice dude!

uzdubmwe30.... Camshaft's turn at half the crankshaft Rpm. Re: m52 start up rattle
You dont need to replace the cams when changing lifters, chain tensioner parts are cheap and a lot easier to replace than the hydraulic lifters, I would start with some engine flush, diesel oil is supposed to be good for cleaning Considering that this engine has done 120,000 miles without being ser...

Re: m52 start up rattle
The tensioner is hydraulic chap, just a piston that pushes up against the chain guide. If it's worn when the oil is cold and not upto pressure the tensioner will not be fully out and will cause the chain to rattle about but normally when took over 2500 rpm oil pressure builds up and releases the ten...

Thing is tho fella if your involved in a big accident and lets hope your not. Or just steer out of the way of...
