Dan shaved my flywheel for a M52 conversion.

Quick turnaround, good price and nicely done.

Clutch hose thread size

Anyone know the thread sizes of the clutch hose, both ends (if they're different!) please.

Need to get a pipe made to fit the hose!

Thanks

Re: Getrag box on a M52, bolts don't line up?

Thanks, the mud is getter clearer now!

My box, from a 320, does say 240 on it's side, who'd have thought that there'd be 2 different types of 240!

Re: Getrag box on a M52, bolts don't line up?

The 318i and 318is both use a Getrag 240 I'm using a 240 box on my M52 and I kick it's head in all the time and never had any bother. I use this with the 2.5 M20 flywheel, clutch & starter and again no protests. If you use the ZF box from the 328i you do need to look at other diffs as the gearing i...

Re: Getrag box on a M52, bolts don't line up?

Pretty sure I've got it at the right angle, all the fat bolts fit and the top two fat ones won't line up with any other holes. It's on the bench at moment.

Don't I have to change the diff ratio to use a 328 (ZF?) box and what car is a M40/2 box in? Or is it a 260?

Thanks

Getrag box on a M52, bolts don't line up?

Got a Getrag 240 from a 320, fitted it to the M52 and the thinner bolts round the bottom half of the box don't line up with the holes in the engine!

Engine is ex-auto box, any advice or just use it with the 3 thinner bolts missing?

Thanks

Crank with Air Con pulley

My M52 has an extra pulley on the crank, maybe for an aircon pump?
How to remove?
Unbolt and remove the rubber band holding it in place, or just chop off the bit that sticks out from the crank pulley?

Thanks

Re: Gearbox confusion

Wonder where the best place to source a V8 box is, UK or Germany?

And if anyone has transplated a V8 auto bellhousing onto a more common 6 cylinder box? Or is the auto bellhousing the wrong shape to take a V8 clutch?

Advice needed please, I'm fitting a M62 3.5 and after having read through the forum, I'm confused on gearbox options! I'd like a 5 speed with overdrive top, so which box bolts up to a V8? I'd ring some of the hood manufacturers, see if they can't replace the window with something darker. Also try companies who make hoods for boats, seen lots of boats with dark plastic windows.

Watch out with breakdown cover, check that they will recover the car regardless of cars value. You may find that if the value of the car is less then the recovery costs, they'll write off your car.

This happened to me in France with a MG :( .

How about a group buy to get some E30 hubs machined in aluminium with the 5 stud fitting, assuming M3 discs have the same fitting dimensions as E30 ones?

Also get a small unsprung weight reduction and that's always a good thing :) !

As soon as I read "fly by wire", I ran screaming from the computer
8O !

Having had a look at the differences between a M50 & M52, I think it won't be much of a gain for the expense, esp. as the M50 I've got seems to be very strong. Save that till I need a new engine!

Changing M50 for M52 or even M54?

Hi,

Got a M50 in my E30 already, wondering how hard it would be to upgrade to a M52 or even a M54?

Are the mounts in the same place, will the ZF gearbox I have work with them? Any other "gotchas" I should look out for?

Thanks

Andy (The M50 is great and very recommended, I'm just being greedy :D )

Just add that if the guy who hit you is uninsured, you may have a claim against the insurers fund, it pays out in the event for damage caused by uninsured drivers. Sorry, don't have any contact details, but I'm sure a Google will find it.
