Thanks for all the views and info. Yeah the ES is a very stingy spec., with particularly nasty wheels! And yes Neil, my thinking is usually similar to yours, for a daily anyway! My brother's rolling around in a Ford Fusion 1.4 atm ( 8O ), so he reckons a 318i will blow his mind. I think he's coming ...

E90 318i ES

My brother's looking at one of these, I think he just wants to pretend he's far wealthier than he actually is. The car in question is apparently an '07 with 95k miles. I've warned him about it being gutless and not particularly amazing on fuel, just wondered if there were any particular problem area...

Not that high as long as you avoid a main dealer, not as bad as an M car either. Can't see a 750i being much worse than any other e38 to run, other than fuel/insurance. The engine is simple and pretty bullet proof. It's likely to have more gadgets than lesser models though, which may not work anymor...

With regards to performance. it's very unlikely you'd notice the difference between any of them. Springs are springs (within reason!)
However corrosion proneness/resistance could be an issue with cheaper springs.
In my experience GSF stuff is significantly better than ECP.

Not a bad choice. A 525i (M54 engine) would be a late one though, facelift only. 2000 ish onwards iirc.
See if you can stretch to a 530i too, similar economy with plenty more grunt :thumb:

Or do you mean the earlier 523i/528i (M52 2.5/2.8)??

Only 325 sports have an LSD as standard, although many 325's were fitted with them. factory and after. A welded diff wont help you at all. Spacers might give you a marginal improvement in cornering grip, but wont do anything for traction. I wouldnt go mad with suspension, maybe look into an oe m tec...

If you want more grip in the wet, tyre choice is critical. E30's dont have any driver aids (other than ABS on some), so a bit of care is required in the wet, as it sounds like you've already found out. There's not really much you can do other than make sure you have good tyres and that your suspensi...

They were BBS RX, 16x7, et38.
If the wheels you were on about were fitted to some special edition calibra v6's the yes they do look identical to mine! Not sure if the stud pattern/bore is the same though.

I'll let you know if NIX doesn't want the kit :)

I loved the 35/35 combo I had on my old 4 door, completely transformed the handling. H&R springs are some of the best you can get, and i'm pretty sure the shocks in the kit come from bilstein, so its a pretty good combo! In my opinion there was no loss in ride comfort either. The 35/35 kit seemed to...

I had my new rear quarters on my tech 1 bonded on, in an effort to prevent rust in the future. I can't remember what it was called but I know its the same spec as VAG use in factory. I need to speak to the bodyshop in the next couple of days so i'll ask them.

I didn't realise you had to fit spacers on the inside of the discs, the spacers I have don't fit on the inside.

This picture suggests they're meant to be on the outside!

Problem with fitting WMS brakes

Started on fitting my WMS brakes yesterday, but found the caliper carrier is just touching the inside of the brake disc, it rubs if you spin the disc.
Has anyone else come across this, how do I get round it?
I really need these on for the coming week!

So this is a very late e34 525i, definitely not an e39 523 (which is also a 2.5)?

Your lad has probably put in a 0W/30 or 5W30 which all the new BM's use. You are indeed better off with something thicker like a 10W/40.

I thought this too about Spax Mark, the ones I had on my old Mazda were rock solid, but I keep hearing otherwise about e30 ones. The H&R are too much dollar but I like the sound of the Eibach cab springs. Is the cab slightly heavier or lighter than the touring at the rear do you know? I take it that...

Decent lowering springs for a touring

I'm after some springs to mate with my new bilstein b8's. I'd ideally like to lower it 60/40 or thereabouts, but it seems that only Spax (and possibly Weitec?) do touring specific springs like this. I'm looking for as stiff a setup as possible really, and I hear the Spax can be a bit soft. Does anyo...

Very interesting! What would be the pros and cons of going from -3 to say -4.5? Cheers. Should be more grip on high speed corners. Go to far with negative camber though and the car will tramline a lot, so it won't be good on rough roads. You start to lose braking traction in a straight line too as ...
