Re: Window tints, anyone got advice?

I got mine done for about £120 and that was a touring. I wouldn't try it yourself, to do the rear window the guy cut out lots of little strips to go in between the heating elements so I presume you can't just slap it on.

Re: some none jargony advice for new female owner/member <

Welcome! If it's a saloon 320i you probably wont even have discs at the back. Get the brake setup from a 325i or any touring(same setup) as mentioned above, which will be solid discs for the back and vented discs for the front (and calipers to go with them). Reconditioned or new calipers maybe and d...

This blue 325i touring belonged to mates brother in law who is a top notch bmw/porsche mechanic. Some porsche customer left it for free (!) as he'd got a new 911- he used it as a garage runabout then passed it to my mate for nowt. Turns out it's lowered on bilsteins etc. , got A/C that works, posh s...

Re: Totalled my touring yesterday. Boo

If the engine was mint I might consider fixing her but it was a rattly bugger. Probably needs 2 wings, bonnet, valance, radiator and a light. Also the clutch pedal's dissapeared so somethings wrong there. At the end of the day it's an average spec 318i so I'll just sell off the good bits and scrap i...

No, definately alpine white 2. Maybe it just shows how much my paintwork was in need of restoration! I just couldn't bring myself to keep going back to the dealer and shelling out >£6 for a TINY can, everytime I found another bit of rust. Can't remember the halfords price but definately cheaper an...

I bought some dealer alpine white to do my se skirts and was surprised that the colour match wasn't great. I later got some halfords "bmw alpine white" to touch up and it was actually a better match as it seemed to be more dirty/faded and therefore more like a real 16 year old white! The bmw paint i...

Don't know if they do chassis stuff but as far as suspension geometry goes, go straight to Nottingham 4 Wheel Alignment in Bulwell. They did in 20 minutes what it took Kwikfit an hour to decide they couldn't actually do.

A lot of them are tappety and rattley unfortunately, but if you find one that's been loved then it's all good! Just have to listen to it really. I had to hammer in a star (torx) bit that was just a bit bigger than the hex and used a socket to turn it (with lots of wd40) - depends if there's any hex shape left at all! Get new bolts from the dealer, why not- only pence.

Re: Advice on a car for engine swap

Or get a touring which will have rear discs and arb and (probably) the 51mm front struts as standard. You can pick up a mint 316i or 318i touring for peanuts but you will need to change the diff as well as the rest of the running gear, plus the weight will be more balanced with a heavy engine.

Re: How low and ....

Original shocks are good for -40mm springs, any more and you'd need shortened shocks. A nice subtle touch is the SE side skirts from a touring, and a front lip spoiler from a 318is (but these are hard to find) or you could just colour code your standard little chin spoiler along with the SE skirts. ...

Re: Powerflex TCA bushes, pushing wheels too far forward?

There is only one way to mount them that makes any sense. The cutouts in the arm part of the bush dictate where they go, it's just that with them pushed on as far as they go, the back part of the control arm doesn't quite seem through enough. Whereas the original bushes fitted so that the end of the...

Powerflex TCA bushes, pushing wheels too far forward?

Right, fitted some of the above (eccentric) a while back (I know i should have gone for OEM,too late now). I realise they move the back of the wheels out and also the whole wheel forward (though I don't see why) but I've noticed that the tyres rub on the front plastic inner arch cover (the bit the b...

If they're only 6j wide then I doubt 11mm would make any difference to the clearing. 15 inch bbs are 7j wide with et 24 or 25 so thats 2mm less offset but they stick out an extra half inch with no problems-go for it.
