Hi Oilman, I use repsol elite competition 5w-40 synthetic in my M40 and on colder morning start ups I would hear about 2-4 taps comming from the engine. Other than that all was fine. I have now change to the Repsol elite multivalvalus 10W-40 semi synthetic and have not heared the tapping sound since...

I tried this nulon product which stopped it http://www.nulon.com.au/products.php?productId=e10 then my timming belt broke an got the whole head re-done. The timming belt was over due to ...

Not unusual foe the M40 to tap a little when cold, and personally I wouldn't worry about it. A change of oil grade may be worth trying - may make it better or worse, but in any case, the knocking is harmless. Oil spray bar in the head can become partly blocked, is almost impossible to clean, but is...

Hi, I've got a dec 1989 built 318i 4dr sedan with M40 engine. I've been told to use castrol magnatec 10W-40 (semi-synthetic). I also have on hand some Repsol elite competition 5W-40 full synthetic at home. Which one should I use? Personally I think I should go for the Repsol but am interested to see...

Hi, I'm new here, live in Australia and have a 1990 e30 318i which I bought 2nd hand. Has about 164,000kms on the clock and recently have had the head/valves done (due to a snapped timing belt). Have been told to use catrol magnatec semi-synthetic 10W-40, which I already have bought and will do and ...
