I don't know if the cab was an auto or not as that was all that was left on the shelf.

Thanks all for your help. I'll get the rust off the tag on the unit with coke and know for sure.

Final Drive Ratios

I've just replaced the very noisy final drive unit on my 325i Touring with a unit from a 'C' reg cabrio from the breakers yard. The small tag on the replacement unit is rusty so I can't make out the ratio from it. I feel the car is slightly slower. Does anyone know if the ratio of the 'c' reg cabrio...

The coupling nut is a 32mm- you can get a water pump spanner to fit from Halfords at about £10. If the sharp tap (reverse thread) doesn't work then you may have to strip the coolant hoses off the engine and remove the radiator. This gives you access to the water pump pulley. The Haynes manual is lacking as it tries to cover too many items due to being for 3 and 5 series. The Bently manual is far superior, explaining everything in full detail.

Alright chief, the brake lines are a tricky job (if they are routed the same as a 325i) but not ompossible. You don't have to remove the tank or the crossmember but you do have to be very patient with the two T pieces bolted to the underbody. Work them gently and use plenty of release oil long befor...
