Re: can someone value my car please :)

Possible electrical gremlins? I'd say £800-900.

Brake conversions, front and rear

I've decided I'm going to keep my E30 316i after a faily successfull MOT and do an engine conversion. I'd like to get the stoppers sorted out first though. I'd like to upgrade to bigger, vented discs at the front, and change from drums to discs at the rear. At work I've got some E36 M3 front brake c...

Re: Reving on it's own

Again, solved quite quickly on my own. I noticed that the main induction hose was taped up(and presumably leaking) so I figured this would be messing with the air flow meter. I disconnected the air flow meter plug and the car idles rough, but didn't climb :) The new induction hose arrives at work to...

Reving on it's own

After the delight of getting the car running yesterday, I've run into another problem.

When the car is idling the revs will slowly climb as far as 4k, with no help from me! This is so bad that when I test drove the car I hardly had to touch the accelerator pedal!

What's wrong?

Re: HT Lead order on cap

It's alright folks, it's sorted. Just needed to know the firing order really.....

The car runs now. Thanks to those who offered advice in the last thread I made.

New plugs and a clean up of the cap and arm seemed to solve the problem :)

HT Lead order on cap

I've taken off the distributer cap on my M40 316i, and it's come to refitting and I haven't taken any notice of what order the leads were in. Neither leads nor cap is numbered  Can someone please quickly tell me in what order they should be? chambers running 1-4 from gearbox to cambelt cap runn...

Re: Car wont start

I've been out and tested the spark(taken a plug out, reattatched it to the lead and touched the end against the inlet maifold while cranking over, is this method ok?) and only one plug sparked very occasionally. loose connections on coil? faulty coil? Yeah, I was thinking that too. I guess it's the...

I've been out and tested the spark(taken a plug out, reattatched it to the lead and touched the end against the inlet maifold while cranking over, is this method ok?) and only one plug sparked very occasionally. Re: Car wont start

Crank sensor is fine. I just removed the spark plugs and they are are black, stinking of fuel and a little oily. I'm going to test to see if they're sparking and drain some oil as it seems to be double what it should have in it :? Should I leave the plugs out for a while to let the fuel in the cylin...

Hey guys, a while since I've been here because I sold my last E30, but now i've aquired another :) The story is... I was meant to be picking up this M40 316i on sunday, so the seller moved it on his driveway and it ran out of petrol. I wasn't able to make it on sunday so I turned up the next day to ...

I'd try a 2nd hand fusebox from a scrappy mate. It might save time trying to track down faulty components.

The cause seems quite clearly to be a leak somewhere. Have you noticed any moisture or dampness around that area?

As Chris said, that's too expensive. The cost of these parts is less than £100, £150 at an absolute limit. I'd say circa 4 hours labour to fit them all.

Take it to a better garage mate

Going by other cars that I've owned, this is usually the cam breather pipe. When installing an K&N or such like, there's usually an additional connection that you can attatch the breather pipe onto the induction kit, just after the main filter. Otherwise, you can buy the mini pipercross(or similar) ...

I don't know where you are plucking the parts cost figures out of, but, 3 or 4 times what an E30 costs is way wrong. Certain things like brake discs are a lot more expensive than an E30, but, that's because the 944 turbo has proper brakes that work. Normal service parts are not expensive at all, pr...

Brake conversion

I plan to ditch my solid front brakes in favour of the Vented items on the larger engined E30s in the next few weeks. Anyhoo, I understand that you change the discs(obviously) and the calipers, but do you have to change the caliper bracket or hub? If there's a topic explaining this swap, or a walkth...

RE: the 'poor man's Porsche' comment; I quite agree. Front engined, 4 cylinder(the majority being non-turbo) is hardly the makings of a future classic Porsche. That is of course if we only compare the 944 to other Porsches...... The 944 is a fantastic car to drive(I've only driven the S2 myself), aw...
