Tell me about egr valve blanking
My previous daily was a astra 1.7 dti and one of the first mods I did was to fit a blanking plate for the egr as they are known to go faulty read lots about the benefits at that time such as better pick up and improved mpg, from experience can't comment on mpg improving but pick up was much better a...

Anyone tried this on a e30 I assume it's probably better on not so old cars and not ones where sensors etc are worn due to general age and use?

Re: AA badge
Seen quite a few of these on old dubs and they are retro, on a e30 I don't think the grill would be the best place it suits as I remember the badge is quite big. Maybe you should think about relocating it? I don't think you will find a new badge but if it's oxidised try a bit of tcut on it

Mine might not appear in the pic but it lights up exact colour as the dash, I bought amber wide angle leds ah ok cool, you can see it better in your pic of the foot well led there, looks well good, when its dark does it give a nice 100% even light up of the emblem ? , and is it wired so that it is ...

Re: DIY illuminated Gear Knob
I got a bit carried away with the spare Leds I had and fitted one in each foot well for some footwell lighting a˜Š although you can see the Leds in the pics you can't see them at normal level and it leaves a dim amber glow on the footwell http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy89/G410ALX/CD770278-D991...

Re: DIY illuminated Gear Knob
Hello all, I was going to buy an illuminated gear knob but at like £80 I think they are overpriced for what it is so I made my own it actually glows quite well at night, what you think http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy89/G410ALX/7C3D5B0D-8A43-430B-A032-28F6DDFE9DA1-788-0000014FC28D7A8C.jpg is y...

Re: DIY illuminated Gear Knob
Looks Very good mate. Any info on what you did? X 2 Fairly simple, i got one 12v 3mm wide angle led, removed the shift emblem on the gearknob and drilled a hole in the centre of the gear knob so that the led can fit it. The wires for the led go through the gearknob and are fed through the leather g...

Re: Wooden gear knob refurb ?
I know wooden furniture is usually lacquered so if it is made out of real wood it should have a lacquer over it. If its chipped then it will need to be flattened and re done but if it's lightly scratched I'm sure a cutting compound should be able to sort it.

Re: M42 cam cover bolts
Well I had to use the wratchet as the hand tightening technique did not work started the car and it burnt oil like mad as the plug gaskets were not sealing due to the bolts between the plugs not being tight enough, the oil dribbled down onto the plug and then into the bore. I did them up until I cou...

Re: M42 cam cover bolts
if you're going to do much work on cars, you should really invest in a torque wrench, but as a general rule, the correct torque for a nut or bolt is that which you can apply with one finger hooked over a 'standard' length spanner for the size of fastener in question. No thread lock required, and FA...

M42 cam cover bolts
Hello all, I've changed the cam cover gasket on the I.s together with the gaskets for the plugs. Luckily I did some research as to what was involved with the job before I refit and I've read so many horror stories about stripped threads due to over tightening. If I hadn't read up I would have probab...

Re: Powder coated engine parts?
Well a word of advice ask your powdercoater to do the masking before you end up in worse shit. I was not going to leave that over spray on so I thought id clean the underside of the cam cover my mistake instead of using soap and a wire brush I used carb cleaner within half an hour all of that on the...

Powder coated engine parts?
Hello all I've just had the cam cover and inlet manifold powder coated in black but the company that have done this didn't mask the underside so there is like an over spray also where the gasket fits on the cam cover, they have coated the area where the seal fits my concern is will the seals for the...

M42 breather system and alloy engine arm
I'm changing one of the alloy engine arms on the i.s as for some reason it's got a big hole in it. Anyway how tight are the arms supposed to be on the engine I'd say the amount of force I used to undo the 4 bolts was probably the same as undoing a battery terminal?? Didnt seem right to me. Also alth...

You'll need to change the LH lower mount to a 90mm one, but it's only a couple of quid brand new from BMW. Thank you mr Moore, is that the n/s mount? Rite well I got hold of a brand new nissen radiator for a 1.8 I knew it would be smaller but based on what I've read it should work ok I measured the 2 and there's about an inch difference in width. Now what I did notice is that where the fan shroud has 2 clips at the top I thought the rads may be d...
