BMW won a few European Touring Car Championships in the '70's and '80's with the M30 powered E24 (2 valve head) so they must have good potential as a track engine. Just an interesting side point.

335i Turbo Shopping List
Thinking of a turbo now for my M30 converted E30. Thought it would be helpful to me and others to get a shopping list of the needed components from others who have done it. Any advice?

I guess you meant 3.5 M30. I have to put a plug in for the M30 over the M50.

here is the 60/40 kit with 20mm strut spacers in the front (so 40/40)

These are the spacers - they have a bmw stamp and part number on them - so must be available from bmw.

Mine runs just above the 1/4 mark when it's above 30mph and it will only go to just below 1/2 way mark in traffic, it won't go higher because i've set the fan switching on point at 97c. Is your ambient temp fairly high ? My wifes E36 runs at the 1/4 mark that is why I posted this querie. Ambient te...

The red LED's come on in sequence - so I suppose with all four glowing it is saying I REALLY NEED A SERVICE!!!It's the THREE red LEDs that are intriguing me. UK E30s only have one yellow and one red LED after the green ones. Do the red LEDs come on in sequence or all together?

I have the 60/40 cup kit in mine with the M30 and found that is was a touch too low for practicality in a country area - so I put 20mm spacers in the front and now it sits 40/40. I can highly recommend the kit. Can take photos for you tomorrow. As far as the handling goes - the M30 does not affect i...

It it good to hear your feedback about the 3.25 ratio also.. You're right nickso about 2nd and 3rd being awesome - just a smigeon behind an E46 M3 in the 60-80mph test in 3rd!

I have a chipped M30 (limiter at 6700 rpm, I think) with 205/50 x 15" tyres and a 3.73:1 diff and I want a longer ratio. My speedo shows 67mph at 3000 rpm in 5th gear. I keep going for 6th! And 1st is useless! I normally pull away in 2nd. It will still lay rubber pulling away in 2nd too, even with ...

Re: Diff ratio for M30 conversion
Ok, I have just done the maths. This applies to a car (mine) that has 16 inch wheels with 225/45 tyres on the rear. With a 260/6 5 speed and a 3.46 ratio diff this is what you get in 2nd gear: 59.9mph (96.4km/h) @ 6400rpm. So with the stock limiter you dont reach 62mph or 100km/h. 63.6mph (102.3km/h...

Re: Diff ratio for M30 conversion
I am using the E34 260/6 5 speed. The ratios are: 3.83, 2.2, 1.4, 1.0, .81. Once I get a chip that raises the limiter I should hit 100km/h in second just.

Diff ratio for M30 conversion
I dont know if this has been covered yet or not but here goes - I have a 3.46 ratio in mine and it just feels like it needs another gear at highway cruising speeds and it doesnt quite get to 100km/h in 2nd gear. The guys in Germany reckon the 3.25 ration is the best - has anyone used a higher ratio ...

If you have put a custom cam in it just could be your cam timing. Did you have any amount shaved off your block or head?
