Re: Anyone know much about Audi TT''s?
On the up side, they are holding their value damn well. They are already listed in the classic car price lists - something the E30 took 10 years longer to achieve.

Re: Anyone know much about Audi TT''s?
My wife has the 180bhp one and it's a good car. They are well put together and the rust proofing is admirable, so any car you look at shouldnt be rusty. The only trouble spots are the ends of the roof rail strips. Ours has been a fair bit of trouble, with vacuum issues on the engine, as well as a va...

Further evidence to demonstrate just how fabulous a ruster the E9 was. I've heard stories of unloved ones being terminally rusted out even as far back as the late 70s. I bet there's a bit of valuable salvage on that though - is the dash OK? And, as someone said, the seats? Glass? Could be great for ...

My advice is a little different.... Go get the the straightest least rusty best condition e30 you can find. If you happen to get a 6 cyl thats great but if you cant find a good 6 get a good for then throw out the motor and put a 6 in it. This. Don't be tempted into something with a rusty scuttle. N...

Oh! I see! Like that chrysler hemi engine in the 300c. Clever technology that.
Nah the old 1960s hemicudas etc just had combustion chambers that meant they could generate much power or torque or both or sommat.

Re: Shite and Turds
In general, modified cars seldom appreciate in value as classics - with exceptions. A car with an engine transplant, for example, is a bit snookered. I really don't understand why there's talk of 2.5 litre cars being "classics" while M40 engined ones not having a chance. They arent going to be sough...

Many years ago I saw a saxo vtr at the body shop at North Oxford BMW. It had a lamp post in it right where the driver's seat ought to be. Re: E36 compacts
I'm surpised no one has mentioned that the e36 318ti has an M44 engine during that era, and the 316i has an M43 engine. Early 318ti cars have M42s, I think, and early 316i cars have 1.6 M43s. The M43 is a good, bombproof lump though. My M43 316i had a way nicer engine than my E30 316i's M40. I imagi...

Re: Quick question about spare wheels.
Well there you go. I've had 4 BMWs and they all had alloy spares. I remember thinking it was kinda pointless on my 7er because it was a FRONT alloy wheel spare, so I'd have been knackered if I'd had a rear puncture, regardless. So, basically there's no rule to guide me as to whether a car is on it's...

"Rust and a ding in every panel" need not be the death knell. How's the structure? Is it a big patchwork effort or is it straight underneath?
If there's any hope for it, don't knacker it... 535i with a manual gearbox was probably pretty rare even when new!

Quick question about spare wheels.
Hiya, Should all E30s have a spare wheel that matches their other wheels? I mean that (provided they are on their original wheels, naturally) should the spare be another the same: a 14" bottletop in a 14" bottletopped car, steelie in a steelied one, etc? Or are some body styles equipped with a steel...

Re: Newbie looking for an E30 - what should I look for???
Mine's a car made in 2003 that isnt galvanised (!). I read it on this forum in a buyer's guide many moons ago when I DID own an E30. So, yeah, let's watch our sources. Fact is, my point stands about chromies being rusted to soddery. Plastic bumper cars have always been better in my experience (which...

Re: Newbie looking for an E30 - what should I look for???
Chrome bumper cars arent galvanised at all and so the majority out there have some pretty amazing rust. The facelift cars with the plastic bumpers are part galvanised and the rust proofing seems better but still can leave a lot to be desired. These are old cars now and they all have tinworm as a pot...
