i took the rear arms off and had access to a press; it was still a twat of a job.
if your car has rear discs it's probably a good idea to replace the backing plates when you do the bearings to prevent future handbrake issues.

i'd go for option 2.
if the worst happens (unlikely) it's not like another m42 engine is going to break the bank, they can be had for the cost of a service on some modern shite.

Re: White musky substance and Oil (HELP)
likely a breather problem if you've got oil in the TB, the white 'mucky' substance is likely to be oil mixed with water.
to start with, check the breather pipes on the engine for splits, leaks and blockages.

Re: Driving an E30 in snow, share your tech tips.
What do you mean by shift-locking the wheels? as age said above, but on snow/ice it's not a violent action. changing down from 3rd to 2nd at about 20mph without braking and off the throttle is normally more than enough to do it; the rear wheels will be spinning slower than the road speed of the car...

Re: Driving an E30 in snow, share your tech tips.
driving on snow depends on what type of roads you're on. on residential streets just be really sensible, minimise wheelspin as much as you can by having a sensitive right foot, do everything slowly and smoothly. where i live we are blessed with some lovely lanes that are deserted and in the middle o...

it's really difficult to tell from a video, but if you've changed the tensioner and it's still noisey then i'd bet the chain and guides are due for replacement.

i'm nearing the end of my e28 m52b28 install and i'm thinking about cooling. there is no space to retain the viscous fan so i intend to fit a 12" electric push fan in front of the radiator. does anyone have any veiws on the cheap ebay ones like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KODE-12-SLIMLINE-RADIAT...

i've been thinking about the propshaft over the last few days, and after a bit of googling and watching videos on youtube i'd decided to have a go at shortening it myself. most props (fords etc) are just a tube with a yoke welded in the end. most yokes fit into the tube like a cork into a bottle, an...

manifold studs can be easy if there is some stud protruding; if there isn't then it's probably a head off job but that gives you the chance to do stem seals, lap the valves in again, check the guides etc. all for the cost of a head set. i've had great success with this type of extractor kit in the p...

it should be hot in Acc, start and run. i would normally check it with my test lamp but the car hasnt got a starter on at the moment so i won't know if it's live while cranking.

The OMP cage on the above photo looks very neat. I'd love to achieve that . Is that dash original? this is my OMP bolt in so it should give you a rough idea, although i have seen OMP cages that bend in front of the dash. remove the dash, throw away the tubing to the outer vents as there's no chance it will fit. cut where needed using hacksaw/chain drilling. i modified my ecu bracket so that it si...

rust in similar places to E30's is the biggest problem. front footwells/jacking pads, sills, scuttle/windscreen surround are main areas. leaky boots are an issue so look for water in there. rusty spring cups on the front struts lead to failure. being a 4-pot it wont have the dog bones on the rear ar...
