Thanks and cheerio

Hey there, Simply a thank you for the past 4 years support on this forum. Since I got my car you've helped me with numerous niggles, always being supportive and knowledgable. The car got smacked in the rear some weeks ago and is beyond my ability to fix, however it is going to another zoner who will...

Re: Car won't stay in third after a shunt.

Well, thanks for the help. I shall see if anyone is nearby who can help and if I get that sorted I can start to figure out why it isn't turning over.

Re: Car won't stay in third after a shunt.

Okay, I was more concerned with any other mechanical damage that might have taken place - the rear is not extensive but obviously the whole thing got a push strong enough for this to occur.

Re: Car won't stay in third after a shunt.

Crickey - I feel like an idiot - so focused on the back end of the engine bay that I didn't even look at the front - you are exactly right. The engine has shifted about as far as it can go forward and I cannot even see the radiator as the plastic around the fan is pressed up against the metal behind...

Car won't stay in third after a shunt.

Hi, In addition to my electrical issue I posted up this afternoon I have now realised things might be more serious than I thought. I know the car was shunted or pushed from behind whilst in gear when I was on holiday. When parked I did think the gears felt 'different' when I was trying to figure out...

Re: Back to the electrical drawing board - not the starter..

Charged the battery - still nothing...and discovered something to make me think this is far more serious. I know the car was shunted or pushed from behind whilst in gear. When parked I did think the gears felt 'different'. I just noticed that the gearstick won't stay in 3rd on its own (the gearstick...

Simply a note to say the same has happened to my 318i m40 after being pushed from behind whilst in gear (manual)...I will watch this thread and if anything pops up on the thread I added today will copy it in here - it's damn frustrating. I just fitted a replacement starter motor today and the situat...

Re: Back to the electrical drawing board - not the starter..

I am recharging the battery, however I should add that the AA guy who came out tested it with his charger battery and the same occurred.

I guess there is a slim chance his was at fault too, but it's a slim chance.

Not so large a dent - the car appears to have been pushed rather than hit. The alarm seems fine.

Back to the electrical drawing board - not the starter...

THanks to everyone that helped last time. To recap - my car (318 M40) appears to have been shunted or pushed in gear from behind. The upshot is a dent to the rear and nothing when I turn the key. When turning ignition I get all the dash lights (headlights work also). Turning the ignition I occasiona...

Changing Starter

Okay, after all your invaluable help (thanks) I am going to assume my starter motor went up the creek when the car got tapped from behind. I am therefore going to change it for a newer one supplied by a zone member. Seems straightforward - other than the obvious (unplugging the battery, unbolting an...

Electrical test - where on the starter motor?

Hi, I have a 12v bulb ready to test power is getting to my starter motor as per a previous thread...where would I place the 2 other ends of wire on the starter motor to test power is coming to it? Will I be needing a third party to turn the key?

Thanks

Re: Starter motor - anythhing I should check before I change

Thanks e301988325i - I need to get a multimeter to see what is coming through to the solenoid...all I have done so far is bridge the 2 pins of the diagnostic cap and note that nothing is turning over - I simply get that clicking and no turning over over the starter. My puzzlement at the moment is if...

Re: Starter motor - anythhing I should check before I change

Thanks - that is clear. Simply iwhsed to make sure it was the starter before embarking on this. Any other opinion is welcome. If I am shorting pins 11 and 14 should the starter actually turn over? Does theignition need to be at any position to ensure this? Should I be able to hear my fuel pump when ...

Re: Starter motor - anythhing I should check before I change

Okay, I summised that it is pins 11 and 14 I need to short, and after doing so the starter motor does not turn over, however what I do get every time i make a connection is a single click from behind the black plastic just below the windscreen up from the diagnostic area - is this the ECU? If so doe...

Starter motor - anythhing I should check before I change it?

So, my car had a knock during the week whilst parked...actually i suspect the clampers of pushing it onto double yellows from behind and then clamping it, but that's another matter. Upshot is the car remains drivable, but no longer mint (sob) yet it will not start. The AA guy looked oover it last ni...

Roof Racks on a Shadowline?

A couple of questions. I need to transport 4(!) bikes on my E30, or at least I need to try to. I have ordered one of the Halfords style 3 bike carriers for the back but still need to transport 1 on top. Would any of the roof racks that fit the E30 scratch or damage the Shadowline trim on my 1990 lux...

Eurocarparts.com - front wing moulding, part 842110240/0230 Am I right in thinking this is the black plastic corner insert for the front wing, and if so which is the passenger side - Left or Right hand side? i.e. Left from inside the car or looking at the car? eurocarparts engine bay fuel hose and clip part numbers?

BMWs out in Q1 qualifying, oh dear...

Thanks to some advice I am going to change the engine bay fuel hoses so I am not poisoning my passengers on journeys.

Would anyone know the part numbers with Eurocarparts for the hose itself and the jubille clips?

Thanks.

Can anyone here change my fuel hosess for £££?

Getting the car back on the road after being sat idle for a while. In the 3 years I have had the 328i it's always had that fuel smell inside. exhaust mounting - somewhat urgent help?

Last year I bought this exhaust system from GSF: B25036 SILENCER-REAR E30 318i M40 87> which has a metal 'hook' welded to the side rather than the usual 'L' shaped bracket which usua...

So, let me get this straight. I need to loosen:

11, 15, and both 7's and the unit should then pivot?

Thanks

moving the PAS pump for belt change = grrrr

Changed my fanbelt just fine once I had figured out the unit pivots so you can move it closer to the engine, however I am having troubles doing the same with the PAS pump. I have removed what looked like a slightly curved bracket held on by 2 bolts which I assumed allowed the unit to pivot, but this...

Is there a guide on here that anyone has written regards the process of changing the fanbelt on a 318i M40 engined car? I have my fanbelt at the ready but need a little advice.
