Hey could anyone confirm if this is the correct location for the ht leads on the m42. Diagram shows them plugged into spark plug holes with the numbers on the leads corresponding to the numbers on the diagram, with fan showing front of engine. Trying to get my M42 re-timed and trying to find and hold top dead centre. Ant told me in a previous post that there is a hole near the starter motor which you place an 8mm drill bit in to hold TDC. Thanks for the help ant. I think im gona get a mate to help me with this. Can someone just answer me this simple question: Is it possible to correctly time the engine by just removing the rocker cover and upper and lover timing case covers?

well to be honest the only way to learn is to muck in, ive already replaced all gaskets, had head pressure tested and skimmed and put all back together. So i can work a spanner. Just have no experience timing an engine as ive never done one before, hence why im on here looking for advice. So any hel...

had one of the spark plugs out just to make sure it was sparking, and whilst turning over thr was like a wisp/bang and a bellow of whitish/bluish smoke came up the spark plug hole and out of the throttle body?

there is white smoke coming from the throttle body, pulled the rubber hose that connects throttle body and air flow meter, and pulled throttle cable to open throttle body and some smoke is coming out. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Ok so ive finished rebuilding the head on my m42.
However now the car wont start.
She is turning over but wont fire, i have a spark and i am getting fuel to the plugs. Its turning over healthily!
Anyone have any ideas? Hope i havent made any bad mistakes!

just about to rebuild the head on my m42. Wondering if anyone has a disgram for the correct pattern to tighten the head bolts, and what shud they be torqued to?

Just about to order the "head gasket set" off euro car parts for my 318is m42. Just wondering does anyone know if this includes the head gasket itself or do i have to buy this seperately?

Currently have the head of my e30 318is for a bit of a look. Gona rebuild it but wanna replace most of the gaskets, just wondering if you can buy all the gaskets as a set? instead of searching for loads of part numbers? any one know? cheers

i dont no tbh, still have to drain the sump, i bought the car last year and it has been lying up ever since, so i never did an oil change in it. Thank wudnt explain the coolant spitting out of the exhaust tho?
