hello peeps, im new to these e30s so i though id look into the "zone". im impressed with the site and everyone so willing to help each other out and chat sh*t bout cars!
im 26 im a mechanic and mot tester and have had lots of cars over the years mostly vw and audis but after changing the timing chain on a red 318is e30 at work that had done a genuine 278000 miles!!! i was well impressed what good order it was in and enjoyed caining it round the block when id done it!!
so i bought my first e30 in march on ebay! (mistake?? yes.) apart from 3 pics on ad. i bought unseen! in the ad he made it sound like it had only just round out of tax and test, but infact it had been stood for nearly 2 and a half years!!!!!! yes he got neg feedback!!!!! its a manual 89 320i touring in lachs silver with 15 inch bbs wheels. for £260
stuff ive done; repiped all the brakes. new rear discs ,pads, shoes, cables. new radiator. tyres all round, budgets on the back yokos on the front. new back box and tail pipe trims. s/h service ind board. usual smoked indicators, new 318is fibreglass front chin spoiler and eyebrows. front shocks, brake fluid change. sump gasket. servce. cambelt and all rollers and auxs. had boot lid and n/s/r door painted.
oh and im about to do the petrol tank cus it pisses out of the rotten bits if i put more than 12 quidsworth in it any words of warning? got new tank at trade £90. 2.7 hours book time apparetly???
so basically i could have just gone out and bought a good 325 touring for £700. and saved myself loads of bollo*ks!!!
sorry to waffle on. :? :?

325i camshaft is a no no it just won't work, fuel tanks isn't very fun either! need to drop the exhaust and prop first. You will have access to a ramp so it won't be that bad! check the filler neck isn't too rusty either

Welcome murran, as you say you could have saved yourself loads of bollo*ks but this way you are going to know that everything you,ve done to the car is pukka as well as getting to know a lot about your motor, even though you are a mechanic. Least you have acsess to decent working envoiroment.

you would get good results if you leave it attatched to the 325 engine when you fit it! lol

seriously though it is the best upgrade you can do as 325 engines turn up quite cheaply on a regular basis. or you could turn your mechanic skills to building a 2.7 or even 2.8. then theres multivalve engines and turbos and superchargers to consider.all have been done before and a quick search will uncover loads of info. hope all thats got you thinking winkeye

welcome to the zone buddy :D

wow so many responces.
i dosent drip fuel out if i just keep putting a tenner in it all the time (which i do). i know not to smoke near it but other people?? could put a no smoking sign on it when i leave it parked???
horns that play a tune wont pass an mot! has to be a steady note!!
i expected better mpg out of this bm? its only marginally better than the 2.2 '85 audi 90 quattro i had last year and that was k-jet and 4wd! similar power outputs to audi kv eng being 136bhp.
also im not sure which engine sound track i prefer the bm 6 the audi 10v 5 cylinder warble??? i think i can guess what you lot think! :D

Your BM should do better mpg than the Audi, but not a whole lot.

One of the guys competing in a rally I worked on had a ford anglia with a tune-playing horn.

Hope you enjoy driving the BM... :)

I think you are right, it's more important that your car actually steers! The back end will follow... sooner or later! :D
