Opinions on undertaking

When on the motorway or large A road and there is someone sitting on the fast lane and there is no reason for them being there (other lanes empty for eg) I will usually undertake them and them give them that disgusted look. lol.
Is that frowned upon by many? Should I just lay back and wait? Should I drive bumper to bumper with my 8000k hid's on full beam?
I know undertaking is not right but so is using an overtaking lane for cruising.
I'm sure most of you guys/gals must get fed up with this too, what's your method for shifting the rude fekers in our bmw lane?

If they are under the speed limit then I will undertake but stay in lane 1 for a while so it's not too obvious. If they are doing a reasonable speed I just wait for them to move.

As long as you are not inconveniencing others then it's no biggie imo.

i usually undertake but make a point in reving hard and lifting off just as im level so they get the noise from the loud dump valve then cut them up as soon as im past so they get the message and pull in.

As Dave said, as long as your not under taking them at 120mph then i don't see a problem with it. If they are too stupid to move over, then leave them hogging the 2nd lane.

As long as I don't look too obvious doing it, I will pass on the inside, I know it is still a bit naughty but lane hoggers are feckin' annoying!

Weaving in and out of lanes on a busy motorway will probably get you a hefty penalty if caught!

Getting an inch from their bumper is much worse in my opinion and could really freak out a nervous or non-confident driver, so I never do that.

it's mainly ditherers in the middle lane sat on 65 mph oblivious to the rules.
the fast lane is what it's called for a reason,but you have to be alert for the prat pulling
out in front of you to overtake the numpty doing 65 mph in the middle lane.

I do it when I need to. I don't think it's dangerous in general. Every situation is different, but if I think it's safe then I'll do it rather than wait for some dithering woman to make up her mind about whether to carry on applying her make up or get out of MY lane !!!

i find dropping a gear and giving it a short blast of full throttle towards them soon makes their mirrors work again. it's not exactly quiet my car

I'm not proud of it, but I do it. I wonder what it is with these people - they're usually in a total daze. I try to make sure I give them a wide berth and ensure that the speed differential is enough that I am not on their blindside for too long. Often they pull in afterwards though, as if your unconventional manoeuvre has awoken them from their slumber, so I guess it can work alright.

I normally giv ethem time to pull into the inside lane. If not then I have lng given up on waiting and just blast right under them. This is normally accompanied by me telling them what i think of their standard of driving

Myself and a random Audi driver drove for the best of a whole HOUR undertaking everyone on the way around the M25 once,for some reason,usual story of sheep following sheep,everyone was in the middle and outside lane,the inside lane was totally clear. There were no road signs to suggest why the the inside lane shouldn't be used,a very bizarre drive. All this at 70mph,no silly speeds.

A good flash at high beam from behind is usually enough to make their mirrors work. If that fails, pulling up alongside, pulling the leather wallet out, holding it up to the window and thumbing them over is good for a laugh (as long as you've counted the number of aerials on the target vehicle first!)

exactly! most of them havn't got a clue. I was thinking a lot of this faster lane blocking could be caused by satnavs saying 'keep right...keep right' at junctions because why are so many people so inconsiderate.

my way is to undertake close and loudly, give them the eyeball and the finger if possible. they need to be show that they are in the wrong place. a lot of the time i see them move over in the mirror. most are just oblivious to anything

its always the same on the city bypass every morning and night, the outside lane is full of a long procession of cars with nothing on the inside. its quicker on the inside lane as theyre often down to 40 or 50 whereas the insides clear. you glide passed at 70 on the inside and still they sit there not wanting to pull over.

Although people sitting in the middle lane of a totally empty motorway annoys me more, meaning I have to cross all 3 lanes to get passed (legally).

Undertaking? I was under impression that passing slower traffic on the right isn't the same as undertaking, unless you're pulling back into their lane? Otherwise going faster (while still below the limit) on the left hand lane before leaving the motorway could be classed as undertaking?

I do it quite often but I try not to make a point, it's not my job to teach them to drive (though I've given them the evil look I'm not too proud of it).

I do laps of them.

Overake them in Lane 3 drop to Lane 1. Let them overtake then go back to Lane 3 again. and so on and so on.

Record so far is 5 laps in about 10 mins before they realised. I reckon in a decent size journey could get that much higher!

Using wrong lane on roundabouts irritates me way more than motorway lane hoggers! If im in the 2nd lane and some twat cuts across i make sure im right along side them so they cannot cut across dangerously or be lazy with the steering wheel.
