Fuel consumption through the roof

Bradz you should have at the very least 20miles in the light though so that makes 60 which isn't too bad for a 320i cab... unless you're 320Touring in which case you'd have about 100 out of a tenner, lol Scots eh
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.
my 320ise f reg
does between 45 and 55 to a tenna which is awfull imo
but i do hammer it everywhere esp now its chipped
but i do still think this is a little harsh
and i know mine is running rich as if you stand at the back you get a right buzz off the fumes

60ish seems common for a 320...johnnyh wrote:lucky use, i get 19miles until the lights on and then 40 miles till im out, of a tenner. (320i) i hope my 325i is more eco.
but wait.. oh yes it's 320Touring on the horizon

*fanfare!*
*crowds go wild*
I have an m20b20 2.0 6pot in my touring. Its not the most economical of engines, esp when attached to a super high diff (circa 4.10:1
)
however, with a bit of attention and care, I've had 38mpg out of it on a long run (200 miles on Ԛ£20 @89.9p/litre)
Round about town, 30-35mpg seems to be regularly achievable, as long as you bear a few pointers in mind....
Keep your engine in Tiptop nick-new spark plugs and Air filters can work wonders!
Make sure your Tyres are correctly inflated-underinflated tyres cause more drag.
Shift smoothly and dont over rev it-2500rpm is plenty to move a small car like the e30
LIVE BY THE ECONOMY GAUGE-its there for a reason!!!! shift up when it drops below 15mpg, and watch how even small throttle position changes affect it.
Anticipate the road in front of you-Why accelerate upto traffic lights that are at red???????
A weekly wash also helps as dirt causes drag!
Try not to carry too much stuff that you dont need as it takes more energy to get it upto speed.
60mph in 3rd uses more fuel than 60mph in 5th
I reckon that m40's should be good for an easy 90 miles to Ԛ£10, and m20s good for 75+ to Ԛ£10 if you drive it gently.
you'll also save a fortune on speeding fines

i just cant bring myself to do that
if i do it lasts untill the next traffic lights.........or damp roundabout lol i have tried honest!!
Hoshy - I put Ԛ£10 when the light comes on, so dot really count on the fuel when the light comes on, anyway not good to run it on dirt in the bottom

My turb'd 2.5 will still give me 215 miles to Ԛ£40, down 60-80miles or so, but I believe I had a very eco lump anyway.
I used to get 270-300 out of Ԛ£40 when N/a and taking it easy, which I hate doing and is not poss anymore!
But the increase in power far outways the decrease in mpg's!
But like most, I didn't buy a 2.5ltr car for economy

yeah gallon is 4.54 L and 1km= 0.6 of a milemichael24m wrote:hey guys, i'm used to the metric system.

so for km/l you multiply gallons by 4.54 and devide miles by 0.6

there's a few of us on here drive on LPG.deian wrote:has anyone done this to theirs? seems a good idea, i'm sure it'd pay for itself in no time the way some of us drive.
One difference of using LPG is that the MPG doesn't vary a lot with driving style. I.E., I get 180 miles out of a tankfull however I drive, so I may as well enjoy it .

On a tenner i get roughly 80-90 miles.
Once on Ԛ£20 when i was driving on motorways for most of the milage i got 215 miles to Ԛ£20!!
So that worked out to be roughly 108 miles to a tenner

brian while ur here, how hard is it to adjust an AFM
apparenlty the one i have on my IS was for a CAT car but mine doesnt have a CAT? so its making loads of extra CO2 which could be killing my economy apparently?

Not familiar with the iS, I'm afraid.
M20 AFMs have a bleed screw which bypasses some air past the meter flap to adjust CO, bur I've got a feeling the iS doen't have this.
You will need to be friends with your local MOT tester and his gas analyser to adjust it.

Shouldn't need to fear MOT testers with an E30 mate. One look at the badge and they should wave it through.318-is wrote:i hope the friends bit was sarcastic

After putting Ԛ£50 in Friday and only getting about 150 miles out of it, mostly around town with the needle pointing at 12mpg i've gone against my better judgment and forked out Ԛ£120 to have a set of injectors cleaned rather than buy new one's at twice that price.
So if this doesn't improve the situatin it looks like that fiesta diesel van i had my eye on will be the next purchase, but not as much fun
