Hi all,

On 23rd october 2007 at 15:10 hrs a big white lorry :shoot1: thought it would be a good idea to drive into the rear of my car then into my door :cens:

After swearing and shouting like there was no tomorrow, I parked my beloved iS to the side and got out to check the damage. I was amazed to see that the damage was not that bad but my anger took over and I asked the lorry driver to pull over to one side in a not so polite way as you can amagin. My drivers door was pushed in the rear bumper was hanging half off and both rear azev rim's had met the curb in a rather nasty way. :cursin: :cursin: :cursin: :cursin:

All details had been exchanged and I drove home in little bits thinking what would happen to my iS. Anyway my insurance called and asked a few quetions regarding the crash and a few forms were filled out and sent off. A week later I recieved a call from the ins, basically they said it would cost too much to repair so they wer'nt willing to do that. I was shocked, to think a damaged door and a damaged rear bumper would be classed as a total loss. Anyway they offered me £320 for the car which I lauged off quite quickly as you can imagin. A week later I got a cheque for over a grand and I was so happy. I did send in some examples of other iS which were priced around the £2000/£3000 mark so I quess that helped me out alot. The car however is now classed as a catC which to be honest dont bother me at all as this iS is gonna be with me for a very long long time. winkeye

The iS is in the bodyshop as I write this and I should be getting it back next week. I'v taken photos of the car before it went into the bodyshop and the progress its in at the moment. Im getting all but the roof painted on the car and a few extra bits here and there. The chap who is doing the work is good and I trust him alot. Totall cost of repair is £800 which im pleased with alot. I will post pic's later.

So my iS will live on

Regards

Rips

As long as the car drives okay is suppose it doesn't matter if you're keeping it.

Get some pics up.

i think there is cat a to d

a cat a has to be crushed and you cant use any of it for other cars
a cat b cant go back on the road but you can use bits off it.
a cat c is damaged beyond economical repair but can go back on the road once fixed
and i dont understand cat d as it is economical repair but i dont know why that should get any category at all.

Cat 'D' - Lightest damage of all the categories. Vehicles of this category are vehicles which the retail repair costs were below the pre accident value of the vehicle. In some circumstances the car could still be uneconomic to repair. The car can be repaired and put back into the market without the need for a VIC.

Basically I think Cat D is just insurers discretion - they didn't want to repair. Can also be offered what's called "cash in leiu of repair" - the insurer offers the write-off value of the car, and doesn't write the car off, even if that money doesn't make up the full cost of the repair. Claimant has to make up the rest of the cost of repairing. Went down that road recently when my 320i was badly damaged - cost more than it's worth to repair - so I took it's value off the insurers and paid the rest myself.

not in the slightest to my mind .fatal means your dead ,a write off means the cars dead but either way its still a nightmare although the other way would be more of a nightmare but i suppose if you were dead you woudnt be caring about the damage to your car right now so i can see pro's and cons in both senarios.
bad day either way

Ya, Fatal seems a wrong choice of words, But I suppose we are talking about physiological damage when it comes to E30s being hurt :(

Great to see that th iS will live on, since it is a very nice car.
