the parts etk sticky in the tech section lists the short engine as about that on its own without the head or ancillaries attached.

took my specs from http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh ... adid=89822

I count the short engine and head as the full engine, water pump, oil pump air con ect ect I do not consider to be 'part' of the engine and only supplemental complimentary parts, after all the fuel pump is in the fuel tank but that too is neccessary for an engine to run!

Yeah Whatever!!!

Where do you get your figures from, you might be right if your talking lbs and not kg's!!!!

I've lifted one, didn't weigh it, but lifted one and I'd say its 120kg of back breaking metal, so do the chaps at bimmer forums and so do all these fellas who have also lifter and changed them:

I weighed my vauxhall xe engine before I jammed it into a corsa. It was 155k with the manifolds and everything to run.

Its a fairly typical dohc 16v with alloy head and iron block.

No way do you get a straight 6 to be 117!

I could just about lift a bare M20 block in and out of the back of the touring.I doubt that I could lift one into the boot of a saloon. It took 3 to lift a short motor into the touring, and I needed to hire a crane to get it out!!

a bare block weighs 42kg or about the sane as a bag of cement so IMO not that hard........ try lifting an assembled bottom end (block + crank + rods + pistons) which would be 65-70kg now thats was difficult in and out of a saloon.
