I'm seriously looking at getting another E30, I absoloutly loved my 325 SE however the economy wasn't the best. I need to use it as a day to day car 100+ miles a day. Wanting near to 325 pace I thought that a 318 is a good comprimise, although not as quick it does have the handling.

How economical are 318is' on the motorway and general?

The is can be reasonably economical if driven conservatively, I managed 400 miles on 1 tank doing about 80-85 on motorways. If you cane it though it is just as thirsty as a 325.

My M10 318i gets about 27-30 around town and much more on a run. It's in tip top condition, so that economy is normal. I was thinking of flogging it to buy a Citroen AX 1.5D, with 60mpg. But I like the E30 too much. And it's significantly more economical than my E28 535i.

Costs about £50 to fill a tank.

If I'm gentle with the throttle on my 318iS I can get near 40mpg on a long run. If I take it for a burst down the lanes, I don't really care...

I got mine for under £900 and it is tidy. Prices seem to vary but I'd guess if you had £1200 notes in your pocket you could strike a deal somewhere.

I'll second that. I can get 40mpg on a run... if I'm careful :)

As has been said, if your careful 40mpg is possible. Realistically you should estimate about 35mpg if you're predominantly doing motorway driving, especially with a few traffic jams.

Personally, if i was doing that many miles a week i'd go for a cheap diesel and splash out on a weekend toy.

I do about 15-16k a year at the moment and all in my iS costs about £4.5k a year (30p a mile). Your doing nearer 25k a year so you can up that to at least £7.5k! Your choice tho.
