The best way to do a brake upgrade is to use discs drive flanges and caliper from a 318ti compact on the rear and use e36 front legs M3 or other wise with M3 dics and calipers or E46 330 calipers and discs:

Anybody know how easy the 750i calipers are to get hold of?

They're the same part as the 735 calipers (E32 7-series).

They're a good upgrade on 635's when used in conjunction with E34 540 rear calipers. I'm still looking for a pair of those if anyone has them!

Thats a lot of parts just for bigger brakes, M3 struts are not exactly cheap, then theres the dampers and springs, dont forget you will need a set of 5 stud wheels, maybe chuck a new set of tyres on while your at it?

At this rate your brake conversion has already cost over £1000 more than Toby's and thats with cheap parts!!

Of course your right but if wheel size is not important, for the time being anyway 15 inch 5x120 arent hard to get hold of and you dont have to have m3 legs any e36 will do with m3 calipers and discs.

my 750i calipers do indeed have 60/28/802 cast into them, but i've not looked at a 735i caliper to compare...

it would be nice if they were the same - i was lucky and got my calipers from a friend, but 750i parts can be quite pricey due to their comparative rarity

i know of a 750 that may still have its rear calipers......dunnno if they are the same as the 540 ones. could take them off and send em to you if required.

Toby, I'm picking up a set of TT discs/750i calipers/pads on monday and hope to get the brackets fabbed during the week (at work).

Any chance you could scan your bracket drawing for me ?

Would certainly save me a lot of fannying about.

Finally finished my big brakes

Used drilled Audi TT/S3 discs, E34 M5 3.6l single pot calipers (almost identical to 740/750 calipers), E34 540i pads and made my own brackets.

It's a big improvement but definately needs a bigger master cylinder.

Which one though ?

sorry for being so useless re the bracket dims Iain, only got your PM today. I think i ended up with the caliper a few mm closer to the centre of the hub, 29mm from memory, but other dims all identical. your bracket design is much neater than mine (mine are basically oblongs with machining where necessary to cut costs!)

my pedal has some dead travel despite everything being adjusted correctly, so i'm going to put my 750i MC on when i have time.

did you ever get to the bottom of the 735i/750i caliper differences (if there are any) or did you just find some 750i calipers.

your discs look a lot cooler than mine too, more holes and bigger holes

are they from GSF or elsewhere?

I got a set of e34 M5 calipers, compared the numbers cast into them with the ones you have and they are almost the same at 60/28/315, the physical dimensions are the same but they have an ///M cast into them.

I had to make mine 30mm otherwise the caliper carriers fouled the strut mounts.

I actually drilled the discs myself using a formula given to me by a workmate to get the holes in the optimum places whilst avoiding the pillars in the vents.

I made mine from 15mm thick steel plate which seems to be the same thickness as the original mounting bracket on the strut.

I'm not doing this swap but the ETK says the 3.6 M5 caliper brackets are only found on that car but the calipers are the same for the 3.6 and some 3.8 M5(upto 06/94).

3.6 M5 discs are 315mm x 28mm.

the 60/22/302 you are reffering to is from the 730 V8 model

I am running the 735 caliper with a 302x30mm Merc disk on M3 struts

As long as the caliper is a 60/28/302 it will fit the audi disc. As you can see in the pic.

What about the E28 M5 Caliper I think they are 4pots will they fit under 16'' or 17'' wheels
are they simlar to the E34 M5 Calipers?
