It Can work out ok with the insurance, my convertible was written of this year I paid £4250 for the car about a year ago with the hardtop. When they wrote the car off I bought it back for £300 and sold it for £1250 and then I got back £3500 from the insurance.
Make sure you put a claim in as if you dont get what the car is worth the money from that will help to repair or replace yours.
Like I say I have just gone through all of this myself so if I can help you with anything just pm me
Cheers, Andrew

well sorry but where do the insurance companies get the money from to pay for they claims you put in?say 10 people claim whiplash at 1500k a pop that 15k, ok so this is on a small scale, money certinly doesnt grow on trees. Who's premium are they going to put up, some elder person (then me) with say a mk3 astra or the lad who has a high performance car?
Before you go accusing me of drinking, drug abuse, smoking etc, I dont condone or do anything, I have a clean record, my car is garaged, cat 1 alarmed, tracked, limited mileage, I live in a low risk area the lowest infact, so what I'm 20? doesnt mean I'm like every other 20 year old who nails shit out of their "GSi maaaaate" all the time resulting in a bit of bodywork thanks to the couch the neighbours couldnt be arsed taking the tip last week and dumped in the housing estate your flying around!

This country is shit, and people like you who are in for all you can extract certainly don't make it any better. In my eyes it's not far off what a girl said to me while in eastbourne - (girl was 20 x2 kids 3 and 1) "I want more kids, I want a football team, then I don't have to work and can live off the social" Stunned, I walked off.

So no I don't think it was over the top (so hard to type!) to say what I did.

(For me I think that is a composed response)

as i have been told below 30 mph it is very unlikly you will have whiplash, needs to be verified by a doctor and if they demand you are seen by an independant doctor and they find no signs of whiplash then you could make the claim very difficult for yourself.

I always thought if you hit someone in the ass you were in the shit. (no pun intended).
not always true. im involved in a claim just now where someone ran up the others back. the insurers are refusing to pay out because of the rammed drivers road behaviour immediately before the crash.

i would agree 99% of them go in favour of the driver in front.

as a sidenote i also dont believe you should claim for whiplash if you dont have it. take it like a man and not a whining moneygrabber.

i only went hospital cus my neck hurt a little, and having never had whiplash and a fairly high pain threshold thought it a good idea, the doc barely looked at me and said i have whiplash, even gave a copy of his notes, so i guess i thought i would get the third inquisition but nothing, my neck still hurts buts its more annoying then painful, i dont like this blame state we live in cus its people like me who have to pay for it, being 22 and a group 17 insurance car. but i dont want to be car less and without the money to pay for another,

i crashed into some pillock in sheffield several years ago in my mums '97 4 litre jeep wrangler. the idiot gardner suddenly decided to perform a near emergency stop to park with no signal next to this house he was working at, presumably cus he didnt know which house it was and he was about to drive straight past it! i tryed to stop but i was following too close and it just slid (it was raining) straight in to his astra estate and ablitorated it. it would still drive, just, but the back doors wouldnt open! the back of the car was knackard, the shell was fooked!

i know it was my fault cus i hit him, but in my driving test i learned mirror, signal, manouver......

if he knew what mirrors are for hed have seen me driving too close and thought, ill signal in good time and brake slowly to show him my brake lights, so he doesnt nearly drive over the top of my car. i like to think that both of us learned a lesson. his was; to use his mirrors and signal his intentions. mine was; that jeep wranglers dont stop worth a damn!!!!!

the jeep was fine give or take. the airbags diddnt even go off. a solid beam bumper bolted to the front of a ladder chassis doesnt move....

i garantee he had whiplash which he deserved!!!!!!

lets wrap this up by saying that if someone rammed into the rear of BOBSs 318is (if thats what he has) then he would merely say oh dear better buy another car this ones wrote off? NO he would be livid and want all he could get to either buy another one as good or better depending on payout, wheres the crime in that, no one asks to be run into so there car is deemed a write off, our cars are or should be our pride and joy, if i had a tech 1 reasonable order worth around £1500 to £2000 for example and the insurance company said sorry its fucked heres £600 i would want the rest off the stupid cunt who caused it, but thats not how it works so naturally you think how can i recoup my hard earned losses, whiplash will give me about £1500, bingo £2100 ill buy another decent E30 who in there right mind would take the £600 and go out and buy a pile of shit to run about in and be satisfied, 20 yrs old!! is he? got a lot of living and learning to do before comming on here ar any forum for that matter thinking hes mother teressa to the insurance companies LOL

Whiplash can happen at speeds even below 5mph.

If you sat in a cinquecento or similar sized car and I drove an S Class merc into you doing a constant steady 5mph I would hurt you more than likely. After a rear impact, the car that is hit is accelerated at twice the speed of the striking vehicle.

Bob has a very nice 1990 E30 M3, and I doubt you have.

As an aside, the whole whipslash thing is a get out for scum to rob insurance companies, no doubt to pay for a widescreen TV for their council flat. The only way you'd ever justify it is if the insurance company decided to screw you over and offer you £400 for your 'old BMW'. Then you fight fire with fire. I would advise a £50 visit to an osteopath ASAP, just to cover yourself - forget the doctor.
But use it as a last line of defence - don't be some money grabbing council breeder.

I see you have obviously spat your dummy out over this it's such a shame your views are such. Yes I would want to re-coup my losses on any car, this is why I have an agreed value on my M3 and the 318is will be the same as it wont be a £600 motor thats been picked up off some ghetto homie who's thrashed hell out of it.
Lets be brutally honest as much as I like the 318is they are ALL ghastly over-priced, it's a torque-less wonder

What do you drive may I ask? a 316i lux with more rust issues that the titanic?

and if I were to spend 2100 on an e30 I'd build one. oh I am that way I know it wont go wrong and will be a bloody solid car with lots of nice bits on it.

The snotty factor and pure arrogance in this thread now is pure class
Lets all go out and spunk 10k of the banks money on an M3 so we can be a 'somebody'

There are a few people on this site for 'E30 enthusiasts' that seem to think its cool to slag off and take the piff out of people with, in their oppinion, 'low end' e30's and its pathetic! These people need to get a life or at least take their heads from up their own asses

Sorry for the rant but some people make me sick :?

Anyway back on topic

Quite simple. It's called 'working hard' and 'saving money'. :D
Nothing elitist about that. I've had a £15k E30 M3 and I'm not rich - just wise with money.
My current car is worth £600 at best so nobody can accuse me of willy waving or snobbery. It's normally those who own £300 bangers not out of choice but out of their own stupidity who have issues. Get over it.

Out of interest, how much did your Sierra cost you? winkeye
Which one?
I built or re-built most of them but never lost a penny nor did i get a bank loan to pay for them either.
As you and i have agreed in the past its better to have a £500 shitter and your own home than a 10k car and still be living with Mummy and Daddy.

I could move out and have both spadge, but would rather stay at home as I dont see the need to move out.
and if it was a dig at me spadge I bought the m3 because i always wanted one and i had the opportunity to have one

dusty, as andy says save work hard and be wise with money. I've lost about 400 quid to cars in the past 2 3 years thats because I was young nieve and didn't know what a good e30 really was as i bought on spec :( lesson learnt.
