a few months back i bought a 1600 crx vti, the 2 seater one otherwise known as the del sol,, vtec 160bhp, whilst it was nippy if pushed all the time i grew quite bored of its highly strung nature but id bought it so that was that, then my mate bought a D plate 325i which i have to say for £490 was really rapid as well but obviously in a different way ( a better way) that was it a few months down the line got a txt off him do i want to buy it? so offloaded the crx onto my dad paid for my mates fascias doing (on his house) and the 325 was mine, should have got one in the 1st place as ive already had a few, but thought id try something else, anyway its started a bit of rivalry between me and my dad as he takes exception to it being called a hairdressers car, anyone else had any duels with the vtecs? i must say the bm feels a bit quicker but i would say that wouldnt i!!
del sol =
E30 =
End of.....
Worlds shortest rivalry over - now you can get on with enjoying the car. Just make sure you remind him how camp the CRX is every now & then....."It's not rivalry but a fact of life Dad. Get used to it"

If its the del sol with the electric roof (which looks pretty cool, one of the better roof mechanisms I've seen), remind him that the roof mechanism weighs about the same as 4 fat blokes.
So not only is he driving a car that is camper than a row of pink tents, but he's driving it with 4 big fat sweaty men squeezed in with him.

Ask him if he's considered tuning it. Just the simple stuff like new cams and a remap. Watch his wallet shrivel in anticipation
Then start saying things like "torque not talk".. "ain't no replacement for displacement". A texan drawl will help.

To be fare to the little camp honda, its B16 engine is 1 of the best 4 pots out there for power and total reliability.
But a screaming 4 pot Vs a howling straight 6 with bags more torque, driving the right wheels...... No contest

I bet your 325 or whatever you have would be eaten up by my FWD wrongess.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:FWD wrongness
What do you know?
A CRX VTi will be quicker than most 325s, even the Del Slo.
Davenotouring by the way.
E30s are cooler though, Del Sol is a girls car.

Agreed... crx's in most if not all forms will waste a 320, and probably (no experience of this) a 325 too... I went for a spin in a mates 1.6 vti saloon the other day... all it has is a 4-2-1 and a whales penis and its insanely quick... until it gets to an incline... torque is a wonderful thingSimon13 wrote:I bet your 325 or whatever you have would be eaten up by my FWD wrongess.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:FWD wrongness

The del slo with the electric roof does suffer a bit from its 1400kg weight though...

Drop down a gear. Torque just makes up for lazy driving.munky30 wrote:its insanely quick... until it gets to an incline... torque is a wonderful thingSimon13 wrote:I bet your 325 or whatever you have would be eaten up by my FWD wrongess.Rosc0PColtrane wrote:FWD wrongness

True... but keeping it on 'tec isnt as simple as dropping a cog.
And lets be honest.... off vtec its just a wheezy 1.6 4-pot.

its already bitten him in the wallet £750 for a new roof tilt motor cos it has the microswitches built in to let the arms pull the roof back into the boot, was mine at time but he paid for it so gave him the car cheap, never the same after that it broke my heart to fork that out and well he forked it out but pissed me off no end the expense of that part and labour to rectify it..

It is a cool roof mechanism... the way the boot lifts and it slides into it... but at approx 300kgs just for that mechanism... its a tad excessive!

never raced one in me 325i, however, i stuck to my mates arse in a Merc 190 when he was driving one of them. Dunno if his one was a gooden or a bad one, but i know for certain that my 325i would whip his CRX. Not even close. That said, his is an auto, and it does belong to his bird...(offered as some sort of defence)

or put it another way, revs just make up for a lack of torqueJon_Bmw wrote:Drop down a gear.
