Moderator: martauto
Hi all, just bought the car and its dripping gear box oil, and interior stinks of hypoid! The strange thing is that the oil seem s to be comming from above the rear bearing seal, book says theres a vent??? is it likely to be that or the gear selector shaft seal? I cant seem to see either from below, woukld like some past expeience advice bfore I remove exhaust and propshaft...will it be a gear box out job? many Thanks

I reckon on the selector shaft seal, think the cost less than £5.
Gearbox out would be easier but I think you can do it in situ.

Screw in a brass woodscrew between the shaft and the seal then pull it out with a pair of pliers. The brass won't damage the surface of the shaft
The hardest bit is getting to it.
