Just acquired an E30

Just bought a 1991 318i convertible and have a couple of questions

How do I find out if the car came with central locking, if it did it is not working now, what are the common faults?

The car has an old alarm, did the cars come with one as standard, there is a small red light on the dash just above the radio, is this linked to the alarm?

Any and all help is much appreciated

as far as I know central locking was standard

alarm could be an aftermarket one
if you have a keyfob for it take a pic and post it up
I am sure somebody will know if its a standard fit on

Central locking was standard on all E30's.

Cause will be most likely the thermal protection switch has gone, there's corrosion in the relay unit, or there's a problem with the red/black wire.

And alarms where available as an upgrade, but yours is most likely an aftermarket one.

They are normally postitioned above the trim visibile behind the glove box, but can be on the drivers side.
