firstly, thanks to zaust for sorting out my account problems. i will bell you soon.
anyway, i bought a 325i conv about 5 weeks ago off ebay. i paid £851 for it. i took a chance because the photos were really bad. anyhow, i picked it up from poole dorset on a trailer. the lady i got it off had owned it for 9 years. she had it kept in a car port. the battery was charged and it burst into life. it ran very lumpy. the fuel had gone stale where it had sat for 4 years. i loaded it on the trailer and the lady started crying. i got it home and started looking at what it needed. the bodywork was very flat. the paint had turned pink. there was a leak from the power steering which turned out to be loose pipes. it needed 2 small holes welding on the tops of the cills. the fog switch and light switch was nacked. the bonnet pull had snapped. washer bottle was split. i put the hood down (electric) all was working but the rear screen shattered when it tucked away. i managed to source all the bits second hand off ebay except the rear screen which i have coming from the states. the brakes were very rusty. i removed the calipers and made sure they were free. the pads were all good. i disced off the rust from the surface with scotch pads. a few drives round the block with the brakes hard on bedded them in a treat. i polished up the body with rubbing compound and then auto glim car polish. it still needs a bit of work. the interior was valeted by a freind in welwyn garden city. its got a new set of mats, and the interior now looks mint. the wheels were steam cleaned to rid them of old grime and brake dust. they dont look too bad. i put it in for the mot, it passed to my amazement. it still needs the headlights raised a little. the only advisor was the rear bushes on the front radius arms. the rear exhaust box has since fell to bits, but it sounds lovely when you boot it. thats the next job. the car is in brilliant red with grey sports seats and bbs alloys. it has full service history and 147700 miles. i reckon i have spent about 40 hours getting it up and running, but it was worth it. the timing belt was done at 137000 miles. if i get some time tomorrow, i will put some photos up of it. the kids love it.
