i removed the gearbox of one engine i need to put the clutch back on which way around does it go does the longer bit that leans out goes in facing the gearbox side

i tried checking on realoem website it doesnt show which way it goes

It will only fit properly one way round
Engine conversions, Auto to manual conversions, parts, servicing etc etc... For anything e30 call 07718 901737

Longer side to the gearbox as you suspected, put it in the other way round and it'd foul the flywheel bolts.

i tried jus puting the clutch on the gear box it can fit both ways either the long lip side going in towards the gearbox or the other way with the lip facing the car engine

it that pic it looks like the lip is facing the gearbox

thought so it fitted that way jus wanted to make sure been workin all day with the car and engine then kinda jus forgot which way around it goes

The box won't usually go on properly if the friction plate is back to front so unless you forced it on your probably ok.

yup... same thing as you, forgot which way it came off and just guessed which way it went on.

It wasnt hard to get on so maybe its ok... back to the drawing board then, this noise is getting right on my tits, and its slipping under heavy load too. :x

The plate normally has "Gearbox Side" printed on it.

munky30 does the noise go away when you press the clutch pedal down?

best way to hear it is to park close to another car where its quite and with ur head out of the window try and hear the clutch noise if you can see if it goes away when you press the clutch did you bleed it properly?

if so how did you do it

Its a scraping noise when I let off the clutch and pull off/change gear. And it slips, not a lot, and only when I launch hard or boot it in a high gear.

Its either that I didnt clean the clutch/plate when I put it in or that the clutch needs bleeding as I know its a good clutch.

When i changed the engine I took the slave cylinder off the box instead of detaching the hoses, to save bleeding it... but think maybe it needs it anyway.....

I'm working on it this weekend so will report back with any findings.

Munky it is extremely unlikely that bleeding your clutch will cure your slipping i'm afraid! A clutch with air in it will not disengage properly and not the other way round so i suspect your problem lies elsewhere.

arse.

The gearchange is very rough into first and 2nd... like its not disengaged properly... so maybe bleeding it will cure that... would grit on the plate make much noise? I forgot to clean it when I put it back together and it didnt make any noise in the last engine....

best to have a look at it again

try checking if the pedal can hold its pressure at a biting point and for how long i fitted a new clutch to another car one time and the clutch was biting ok but it use to loose the pressure i think it had a faulty slave

I doubt any dirt or grit on the plate that may have been there when fitting will be there anymore mate.
More likely to be the release bearing but without hearing the noise its very difficult to say.
When is it noisy? all the time?? when you depress the clutch???

Only when I release the clutch with it in gear. And only really noticeable when I'm pulling off from standstill in first.
