Probably leave the iS gearbox in no? Was more wondering which Diff would be better suited.
Would prefer the one that gives better acceleration, or even source the perfect ratio if there is one.
Anyone interested in the job?

There's nobody out there who wants to have a crack?
£500 for a couple of days work?

Royalratch wrote:Well, the time has come.
I have been quoted a minimum of £500 to drop an M42 into my L-Plate Touring.
Anyone in/very near London interested in beating that?
I have a complete 318iS so would bring both cars so it you would have everything you need and you decide whether to drop the engine/subframe out or lift the engine out the top.
I have neither the space or time but will help and document the process for the zone too. Hopefully could be done over a weekend?
Otherwise it goes to my local specialist end of month.

If you had the bits last weekend i could have had a crack at it over the four days. Too much hassle with parking restrictions around here for two cars though.
Could possibly do it over two weekends though

Aha.
Well, if you figure something out and want to do it, I think it's going in for the swap next weekend.
I'd love to help / photograph which is why I'd like to have a Zoner help.

Getting the lump in and out is easy enough its just the odd bits like that and having to crawl around under the car getting the exhaust off and back on that are a pain.
Then you have to think about things like fitting a new clutch if the old ones had it......
I'm talking myself out of it now

I know I know.
What Diff to use, which diff is on better shape.
Ah well, I'll keep the thread open and post pics soon as.
Got a new wing and front valance to replace slightly rotting one's that are on there and throwing some SE skirts on too.
This one may get a custom exhaust and some kind of chip/air filter combo.
Stay tuned.

I remember reading something about a 6 degree overlap on the cams gets a bit more out of them as well.
and someone in Queenstown road does custom exhausts.

Yeh, there's a guy messing about now but he's had no luck so far.
I'd prefer a rolling road re-map as I've heard these are the best.
Power, efficiency and it's undetectable.
Didn't know the ECU was tweakable without physical chip change. Wonder how it's tweaked...
Fuel mixture? Timing?

Rolling road still needs a chip change, I don't think much can be done with the existing chip in place.

Err, No I don't you weirdo - ?Chris-W wrote:Pimlico.
Anyway, this is on! The engine get's dropped in next Tues. I'm selling out and paying for the work as I will never have time to do it. It will also receive:
New Engine and gearbox mounts
New 318iS center and rear exhaust (ideas on sportier one that's non-offensive?)
New rear subframe (B-frame) bushes.
New clutch - why not?
In the meantime I have fitted rear electric windows, an OBC and heated sports seats so I feel like I did something manly - not. When I get it back I will do front control arms, top mounts all round and maybe some kind of meatier brakes if I can find something that goes straight on.
I've also bought a new front valance and wing and bumper trim all round (ouch) to replace the scruffy ones on there now. When they get added and painted I'll also throw on some SE skirts and then we'll have a twin of my Coupé but with 4 doors and a hatch!
Also want to do the timing chain, sprocket and tensioner and have been quoted around £260 for the BMW kit - does that sound right?
Last thing to do will be wheels, ECU remap (an alleged 25BHP is worth a try) and plain grey leather re-trim - no rush there tho.
Pics to follow!

Pin 15 of the diagnostic connector is ECU receive, and pin 20 is ECU transmit on any E30.Royalratch wrote:Didn't know the ECU was tweakable without physical chip change. Wonder how it's tweaked...
Pin 15 is connected to ignition live when the diagnostic connector cover is on, but disconnected when you remove it.
I've no idea what you can actually do through these pins though.

That must be where they plug in the computer - with some special interface of course.
Or for diagnostic?

I found your post insulting, disrespectful and downright out of order to be honest.
Did it occur to you I may not want my address, though incorrect, to be made public knowledge?
What kind of a person posts someones address on a public forum when he has never even met or spoken to that person?
I accept your apology.
Now enough! Don't ruin my 318iS Touring conversion thread, it's going to be awesome.

I noticed on your website you have a red 318iS with light grey interior.
Would you say I've done too much damage with the whole 'weirdo' thing to ask you to swap with my mint dark grey one?

haha! the royalratsh!te hits the jackpot........
I was going to pay Chris good money for these, and then serve them to you but that would be silly.
You NEED to stop being a nob as there are loads of zoners including myself who could of converted your car, but you keep stabbing yourself with your attitude. Make sure you get that brakcet welded on for the coil packs as its 318is only and keep the engine box, prop and diff together. Check the exhaust manifold for cracks as this is common. The gearbox is different to an M40, the 318iS exhaust system is different despite what most say.
Cheap good way of tweeking it is to get a viper chip (correct one as 318iS came with around 3 different ecu's) big bore throttle body and advance the timing by 6 degrees. After that it's cam's, standalone anf bigger cc's and big money
What am i doing
your flat is in one of the towers next to pimlico plumbers? lovely bit of town

Ahh. The cackling trio arrive.
I don't actually want your help Simon, nor do I need to do anything you prescribe as the zone is not the only way to get things done in this town. Not that you offered up anything I didn't already know if you'd read my thread. I suspect that your offer of help was more about showing off than actually advancing my little project. There are no towers near Pimlico Plumbers - come down I'll show you around.
Chris, if holding those 2 grey bits of vinyl over me makes your knob feel bigger then you're even more of a loser than I had you for - would have been bigger to just send them over to me at Flat 21 in a Pimlico tower - now that would be impressive.
What does worry me is that you actually went and photographed them just to post them up here?! Weeeeirdo!
Alas, even when you losers' better judgment appeals to you to just let it go and actually do some good, it's still tainted with the faint whiff of bitch.
Night gentleman.

I'll worry about my cars and you worry about:
Your life.
Your redneck image.
Your awesome large house.
Your attitude.
Your life.
Getting me some light grey seat backs.
Deal?
